I'm abit worried with no Collins and Albrighton. I hope Clark can cope with the constant long balls.

hmm, clark and dunne got bullied up at st james's. And Hogg and Bannan against their three in midfield is a risk too. Do we assume Ireland plays central with Young on the right? GH has been saying Ireland has been good in training.

I'm sure under MON Collins or Albrighton would have played today, even if half fit.

I thikn there's quite a high chance we'll get turned over today. But we still have the weapons to damage them.

Ireland is playing off Gabby and Ash is on the left wing. Hope Albrighton's and Collins' injuries aren't too bad, good luck lads.

Haven't seen any team news today - what's our line up?
Blackburn: Robinson, Salgado, Samba, Nelsen, Givet, Dunn, Jones, Pedersen, Hoilett, Roberts, El-Hadji Diouf. Subs: Bunn, Kalinic, Goulon, Hanley, Morris, Chimbonda, Mame Diouf.

Aston Villa: Friedel, Luke Young, Dunne, Clark, Warnock, Downing, Ireland, Hogg, Bannan, Ashley Young, Agbonlahor. Subs: Guzan, Pires, Delfouneso, Osbourne, Lichaj, Herd, Lowry.

Referee: Michael Oliver (Northumberland)

And still Ozzy makes it on the bench, but no Saliou.

What shirt number is Pires?

And finally - link to a stream of the game please?

Bit of a worry - may be susceptible to Blackburn's aerial onslaught, but if we can get the ball down and play (which Big Sam will try and stop that) we should at least score. Hopefully Ash will be on the right of a 5-man midfield rather than just behind Gabby

that is a poor blackburn side too. If we can keep Pedersen quiet in midfield it will be crucial.

Also hope Ireland is on the right of midfield. He had some good games for City and the ROI there. We cant afford to have him floating around hiding in the hole.

I think he has number 8

Good to see old campaigner Clark back for this one - hopefully the General can sort Big Baz out with some NFL gear he'll need it against this prison outfit.

Blackburn's main tactic seems to be to whack the ball directly at the keeper from free kicks, whilst their players run into the keeper as it comes in.

Given that, us giving them a constant supply of free kicks to do it from isnt the cleverest idea.

We have no one who can hold the ball at the moment. The ball is bouncing off Gabby under pressure from Samba and Ireland is just someone who is running around the pitch aimlessly.

I would swap Young and Downing and get them on their natural wings just to stop them having to come inside all the time.

Fucking ada. As soon as Warnock goes near Diouf the cheating fecker falls like a felled tree. Very, very few footballers I detest more than Diouf, and he sums up the scheming, cheating fat shit of a manager that Blackburn have.

Friedel, Dunne and Warnock aside we have done ok.

Ireland always on his heels though.

Utterly brainless by Warnock, how often do I have to watch this guy dive in, time and time and time again. I can only conclude he is thick and knows no better. Then compounded by Friedel flapping at nothing

Hadn't quite realised how powder puff Ireland is and the game has passed Hogg by. Bannan has been excellent. Paying the price for being wasteful when we were all over them early on.

Meanwhile, Blackburn make Stoke look like Barcelona...

I have to say, I thought Warnock was persevering with even as he went to shit in the tail end of last season, after his decent start for us, but I'm now starting to think we should get rid.

He's a yellow card waiting to happen, and that free kick just now was pure, brainless petulance.

That's all down to Warnock.  5 seconds left to half time and he fould Diouf on the way to the touch line.  Amateurish would be a compliment
Dont even see that on a sunday morning from the players with no brains, Warnock can fuck off he's been a pub player all season

I would have Pires on quite quickly second half and I would bet my last pound on GH replacing Friedel and Warnock by the start on next season. He got rid at Liverpool for a reason, and won't say that while he needs them to do a job, but will be waving goodbye before long I am sure.

I'd genuinely think of getting Pires on in centre mid if he's fit, because the game is passing Hogg by and we won't win a centre midfield physical battle in any case. We need to pass it around these lot to get anything out of this game.

How many stupid fouls have cost us silly goals this season - amateurish defending and awful goalkeeping have been our downfall .

Bannan looks very good but Ireland needs to up his game and hogg has been anonymous , we need to be winning games like this and still can do so If we up our game in the 2nd half.

I really dislike Stephen Warnock. He was playing alright too for a change. He gets a whack off Diouf and as per usual takes is down for an age. Then as retaliation a mind numbingly stupid cowardly foul leads to their set piece. Awful goalkeeping from Friedel it must be said but gutless from Warnock. Take your slap and move on.

We played some great stuff early on but everyone is trying the spectacular. Think Hogg has been alright actually Bannan has been poor. Gabby hasn't tried a leg though either. Blackburn are pretty crap, they have nothing but set pieces. I have been pretty happy with Dunne and Clark. We need to stop playing killer passes. Just link it up nice and easy. Downing started great but has died out of it. We need to target Givet as he is muck.
Title: Re: Blackburn Rovers v Aston Villa Match Thread
Post by: Dan England on November 21, 2010, 02:28:57 PM
Ireland has been woeful. Warnock dire. Bad mistake from Friedel however has more than enough credit in the bank to be excused. We need to severely change our approach in the second half. Pass the ball make tham work, Young A and Gabby need a little more service. We also need to exploit Downings obvious advantage over Hoilett.

Post by: Deano's Mullet on November 21, 2010, 02:29:02 PM
Not really getting the run of the ball so far but Ireland looks off the pace, Gabby isolated. Downing doing well and we've had a couple of decent chances. All is not lost but if they score again then game over.

Get better distribution 2nd half, and AYoung and Ireland to show a bit of bottle, and i think we'll win this one.

Much as Warnock is a dickhead, Friedel should have saved that.

When we get the ball down, we actually look a good team.Don't know which game that bloke is watching who said Downing has been awful.

Gabby isn't moving up front, he's not working their defenders or moving into space.

Ireland is bottling every challenge.

Bannan is finding it tougher against a more physical side.

Warnock has eclipsed his usual level of brainlessness.

Downing and Ashley are working hard, but when we get into decent positions out wide, there is nobody in the middle.

I think Hogg is doing ok, as is Luke Young, Friedel is taking a battering.

Ireland - from Man City player of the year two years ago to being subbed for a pensioner. He really needs to get his head together or his career could be in freefall.

It's fair enough to point out that we've a dreadful injury list, but the players who have let us down to day - I'm thinking Friedel, Ireland, Warnock - are players of no little experience, who you would expect to be first choicers.

Obviously in the minority but I think we have played pretty well today - could easily have had 3 or 4 goals.  Blackburn scored a fluke first goal and had lucky bounces in area for second - all bounces for us have gone away from our players. Better than some of the sterile crap we played under MON with far more experienced players!

Granted we hit the bar. I would not say that Robinson has made four very good saves at all though. Really can't remember anything past Downing in the first five minutes. He certainly hasn't made a save that was uncomfortable.

I have only been following this match via this thread, but is that true?  I've no idea whether you're an Ireland fan or not, but if Pires has the fitness to offer something them he could be a great signing for the rest of the season.
