Interesting to see how we line up.

4-4-2. Or perhaps a 4-5-1 with Gabby out wide and cutting in.

Petrov and Albrighton rested, excellent decision.
The horror of Salifou and Osbourne on the bench makes me realise we'll need a couple of faces in come January.

Big game for Sidwell, Guzan & Banan to make a claim for a first team place.

they are a bit liberal with their use of 'free' then.

communication on Villa Streams leaves a lot to be desired this season.  They never showed any of the earlier rounds of the league cup last season though, so I am not that surprised.  They have decent streams of Chelsea and Man Utd.  Less depressing watching Chelsea anyway.

Sidwell gave a good interview on avtv the other week being honest about his form at Villa. He seemed raring to go, I'm surprised he didn't feature under KMac as he's had a couple of ressie games under his belt.
Anyway, it looks like Houllier has been studying our games going back to pre-season which is good.
Hopefully Fonz gets a run-out too, he's not had a chance thus far this season.

Quality very average, no comms, crowd echoey, only one earphone on headphones. Watchable (but the £3.49 is for a month's subs). Prem streams are better. You can sign up in a couple of mins with PayPal.

If you must see the game, yeah, do it. The stream is average  (but good enough to watch the game. doesn't buffer for me) because it was really hard to get according to their forums. One is lucky to have it.

Every time I've seen him he's done nothing but shoot. Can't pass, can't tackle.

Hits ten shots per match and scores one in every seven games.

Not sure that's quite what our team needs at the moment.

to be fair I have only seen him in patches and highlights.  He's scored some brilliant goals though, so my impression of him is probably biased by that.  Fergie rates him very highly and has said he is the natural successor to the ginger one.

I'm watching the cricket, listening to the boy Lard on the wireless/stereogram and keeping up with the Villa on here.  Who said men can't multitask?
What's Lard like on his own? Does he still do biggedybiggedybongs?

No biggedybiggedybonnnnnngs!  No mustn't grumbles, fancy a brew or anything like that, but he's still very witty on his own and it's the best music show on the radio.  Radcliffe is on Radio 2 from 8-10pm in the studio next door to Lardy boy.

I do miss their show, absolute comedy gold they were.

Looks like Villa are not really interested in winning this one. :(

?
I meant judging by the starting team we are taking it on the "if it goes our way OK, if not who cares" basis. Surely not the best possible starting 11. Score so far is not surprising.

To be fair, with the exception of last season, we've been fucking awful in this competition at home in recent years (QPR, Leicester, Sheff Weds...) - even under MON which is sad because this used to be OUR trophy.

I have a rare opportunity to log on to the Match Thread and see we are a goal down and apparently can't be arsed? How reassuring to see that some things never change, even with a new man in charge. You'd think the lads, particularly the fringe players, would be grafting their nads off to impress.

Would be hilarious if we were able to see what this forum would have looked like if Heskey hadn't scored straight away! Houllier would have been called a muppet all over the place...me included!

I am no Heskey fan but he has played well for us every game he has played this season.  Much better than Carew.
Honestly I agree bud but it definitely didn't feel like a forward step with new regime hearing Heskey come on for Carew but I was happy to be wrong!

Have to say clever tactics by Houllier has gone to a 4-4-2 and got Young playing up front next to Heskey with Delfounso on the right. Balckburn havingt been able to adapt quickly enough and are 3-1 down as a result

With Chelsea and Man City losing, and that team from north london that isn't Arsenal already out, this cup is looking very winnable right now. Now please, GH, take it seriously in the next round.

If results stay like this we're the best side left in it. I'd fancy us to beat Arsenal's or Man Utd's likely teams.

Chelsea, Citeh, Spurs, Everton and ourselves would be the favourites. Of those only us are remaining as things stand.

A bit of organisation and some decisive action goes a long way. The difference of having a proper manager! No offence to Kev given he was plopped in the deep end, gut we'd be losing if he was in charge. Hell, even O Neill, was never one for inspiring substitutions.

Looks like it'll be a cracking start for Gerard.

Is it me or do we seem to keep the ball a lot better and have a higher possession percentage since MON has left?

No. I definitely see it too.

Strange because this season last three matches possessions stats according to BBC.

Bolton 44 - 56 Aston Villa
Stoke 50 - 50 Aston Villa
Everton 59 - 41 Aston Villa

Compared to Last Seasons corresponding fixtures.

Bolton 40 - 60 Aston Villa
Stoke 43 -57 Aston Villa
Everton 50 -50 Aston Villa

Anyway, Onwards and upwards with Houlliers C and B army.

Can someone briefly outline how we started, and then adjusted, formation wise?

Delfouneso came on for Gabby, and I presume at some point went ride right, with AY playing off Heskey, Bannan on the left. But did we start with that sort of formation, or was it a standard 4-4-2 to begin with?

I think we will come out all guns blazing and win 3-1!

Hope you put some money on it East19. Great prediction.
