Just me guessing here, but if we do get GH I reckon come January, he may rekindle his premiership relationship with Michael Owen ?
Like I said, just a guess on my part.
-
He was heavily discussed when he left Newcastle and went to Man U, and at that time I was against the idea. But if we're talking a short term loan in January until we can sign the right man in the summer, I've heard worse ideas!
-
He has pretty much proved at Man U that he is made of glass and is no where near the person he was three years ago, let alone now. Avoid.
-
I agree chaps but GH was the manager that has had the best out of him.
-
is this a joke?
-
Not sure I would like this.
If he can get fit and injury free then I'm sure Owen would be an asset but he seems to be broken.
-

Because he was lucky enough to have an uninjured, motivated by football, Owen. Now you have Darren Anderton Mark2 who gets injured tripping over an ant and is more interested in horse racing and other pursuits, with football his means of getting the money to support that. I might say ok on a Pay as You Play deal but I doubt he would accept that. Also how much would ManU want for him?
-
Owen works well with Heskey, so you never know.
Well, you do know. You know that Heskey is shit and you know that Owen isn't quarter the player he was. So let's have no more of this sort of talk.

My thoughts exactly. Except I'm generally a lot less positive about Owen and include more swearing. Having read a couple of interviews with him in recent years, I reckon he's not actually interested in football at all. Just property in Dubai (really hope it's tanking, Mr O!) and equine pursuits.

This kind of thing would concern me: Houllier falling back on methods and personnel that worked 10 years ago. Whatever merits the likes of Owen and Heskey had then, they are way past their best now. Houllier has got to look forward, not back. Which is why it might actually be a good thing if Phil Thompson doesn't come to Villa. Maybe then Houllier will be able to leave all that Liverpool stuff in the past and concentrate on the here and now. He's going to find it difficult enough coming back into management as it is. There's nothing wrong with him drawing on his past Premier League experience but this is a totally new project, in a new era.
-
He's way to injury prone and unless we sell in the window dont we only have 3 slots left to fill in this
new PL set up?

If we sign three new players in January we'll be doing VERY well!

Can we file that next to "John Robertson will teach our wingers how to cross"?
-
A fox in the box? Nah will never work
-
A fox in the box? Nah will never work
A bastar' in a plaster cast. Nah will never play.
-
Darren Anderton would be a good signing too, every time a major tournament came around he and Owen were always remarkably fit and available for selection.
-
On loan until the nd of the year wouldn't be a problem. He gets injured, he gets sent back.
-
Owen is clearly past his best, but last season's League Cup final showed his 2 remaining qualities:
1. He is injury prone and will miss more games than he's available for. With a limited 25 man squad, is he worth the risk?
2. Even at this stage of his career he'll score given half a chance. We were right behind the goal at Wembley and had a perfect view of his goal. We don't have anybody who would have even taken that shot leave alone finish it off so well.
Pairing him up with the current version of Emile would be pointless in my view, and they wouldn't get enough playing time together to make it work again. It might however be worth having him around the squad again to help bring on some of our younger players and to assist Gabby with his movement.
-
Owen works well with Heskey
Owen prefers Horses not Donkeys.
-
Owen's like a pig in shit at Man U.
Earning loads of money for cameo appearances and close to home, family and his horses. He's got it made.
-
I agree with Pete 3206- He's close to his home and probably more importantly his stables, he'll play maybe half the games and probably still pick up a medal or two. Let's go for young, hungry and not injury prone.
-
I'd rather see him reunite with Källström.
-
...is shit?
Is that the answer to the question 'Michael Owen'?

Is another - good - way of putting it.
-
No ta,everytime I see him play I feel a bit bad for him as he's not even a shadow of his former self. When he was at his peek his best assists were his turn of pace and finishing. He has no turn of pace no,and he need a few chances now before he scores.
-

Is Klas Katt your real name? Much better than Karl Kallstrom.
-
I would still take Owen. Goalscorer and in Jan any decent forward is hard to find. Get him fit for 10-12 games and get 6-7 goals and jobs a good un.
-
Another bit part player on top end wages - no thanks. If Man U were to pay part of his wages, maybe but why would they.
-
surely Houllier, having worked with the cream of French youth football for the last 3 years will have a chance of bringing in a few little gems from over there,
without having to rely on a past his best injury prone michael owen

If he could bring Yohann Gorcuff (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zdVzzvMEG08&feature=related) that would be exceptional.
-
I'd happily have him on a pay as you play contract. Worth a gamble and not going to take up places in our squad at present with only 22 players
-
Three words : No thank you.

That's what I'm hoping ...........
-
I'm just speculating, but what's Harry Kewell up to......are we in for him too now?
-
Phil Babb is a free agent and been spotted training with the first team.
-
When Newcastle were relegated I thought he might be worth a punt. Now? No thank you.

I agree. His time at United has shown how far he has 'gone'.
-
How about Jerzy Dudek from Real Madrid?
-
No thanks, the guy has had a terrible injury record and it is not seemingly getting better.
-
Three words : No thank you.
One word - "non"
-
No chance

Yeah, but he's not exactly unknown is he? Lyon bought him from Bordeaux for 22m euros.
It would be amazing though ;)

Houllier admits Owen interest
New Villa boss keen on reunion with former England forward
Last updated: 16th September 2010
Houllier: With Owen at Liverpool
He has always been in my thoughts.Gerard Houllier on Michael Owen.
New Aston Villa manager Gerard Houllier has confirmed his interest in working with Michael Owen again.
Houllier, who will officially begin work at Villa Park next week, has been linked with a swoop for the Manchester United forward after sealing his own switch back to England.
The French tactician worked with the former England striker for six years during their time together at Liverpool and the new Villa chief has not dismissed the chances of a reunion.
"He has always been in my thoughts," Houllier Canal+.
"I like him (Owen), as a player and a man."
Houllier also dismissed suggestions that Owen, 30, was no longer capable of producing goals at Premier League level.
"I went to Liverpool on September 4 for Jamie Carragher's testimonial, and I saw Michael play a half of football," he said.
"He still has the legs for it."
Future
Houllier's comments come on the same day as Owen revealed that he could be growing increasingly discontented with life on the bench at Old Trafford.
"You can only do your best and prepare and train well, so that you are ready when the manager calls on you," said Owen.
"After that, it's up to the manager who he chooses.
"It sounds easy, but probably the most difficult thing is not playing for a couple of weeks and then all of a sudden getting called up and being mentally and physically right to perform well.
"At the end of the season, I'll look and think, 'Was I happy with the amount of games I was available for?', 'Did I score enough goals in the games when I played?' and 'Did I play well enough in those games?'
"You look at highlights of the season, did we win anything, things like that. But I wouldn't put any goal or appearance totals out there because, at a club like this, you never know when the manager is going to use you."
Man. Utd v Liverpool Last Goalscorer: Owen, M. 7/1
What a prediction !!!!!!!!!!!!!

My hope with the appointment of Houllier was that we now would have the chance to get some of the latest French fashions but instead it appears we still want to be shopping in TK-Max.

He hardly played which is the issue. When he did play - the last minute goal v City and against us in the Final for example, he looked pretty useful to me.

The French players hate the French FA, why would they want to now follow him to Villa?

I said, 'latest' French fashions.....we don't know who they are, he will.

Do we know the reason for the walk out, as i'm not sure? Not sure i'd want many of the players who went to te world cup with France...
-
He still has the legs for it? Just because he can play 45 minutes of a testimonal does not mean he can still turn it on in the Premiership over a sustained period of time.
-
To repeat what I posted eslewhere, would he qualify as a bums on seat signing or has his injury record diluted his reputation? I'm always shocked at how young he is.
-
He might have some good racing tips, but other than that I've no idea what he would offer.
-
If Owen is the type of player he's looking at bringing in, then it doesn't look good. I'd have Gabby and Fonz over him anyday. Hopefully he'sll see that when he finally joins us.

Id have Owen and Gabby, Gabby does the running and Owen gets the goals in every time. Theres gotta be a reason the Fonz dont play, id have a fit Wiemann in front of Fonz
