Spot on Willy Wombat with your call.
The 2nd one along is Jimmy Brown, Harry Gregory had been long gone to Hereford in 1972.
This was I believe the front of a souvenir brochure produced for the league cup final with Norwich.
A similar brochure was produced for the 1971 final with Spurs. My Dad had a shop in Boldmere at the time and organised a raffle with a football signed by all the players. To enter the raffle you purchased the brochure with a raffle ticket stapled to it, in amongst my programme collection I must still have about 80 of those souvenir brochures all with a staple hole in the corner. Also have some photos, certainly one of the ball being presented to the lucky winner. Hope i still have them, if so I will try and look those photos out and post them sometime.
We had a number of the players turn up for the event, it was a carpet and furniture shop and my Dad would have probably let them have some stuff at trade price. I have recollections of sitting in the little office over the shop afterwards with my mom and dad and probably 4 or 5 of the players drinking tea and them chatting about the upcoming final. Chico Hamilton, Bruce Rioch and John Dunn definetely amongst them.

"Slogger" was centre half at Villa when I started in 1966. Along with Hateley he was one of the more accomplished players in a struggling side. Son of a dutch paratrooper he made the trip across to small heath, from memory I think it was for £45,000. Knee injuries forced him to retire at 28. I believe he lived round Birmingham after his playing days finished. He lost his battle with leukemia and died aged 45 in 1989. RIP.

I think thats a fantastic deduction going for the king of 1960s central league full backs, as he did indeed bear a resemblance to Bernie Gallagher.
I know it wont be though cos the guy has a Mita Copiers shirt on.

Didnt play for us, but the guy on the left as you look at the picture was connected with Villa.
While your at it, he was never with us but who is the legendary figure in the middle?

And both managed Manchester clubs.

On the left Joe Mercer, in the middle Matt Busby.

And fomer Liverpool manager, Don Welsh, on the right

CdVillafan and Shellac. Both correct. It's Fabio Ferraresi.

well done Dave. Chico was chucking the cider down his neck that afternoon.
I was so nervous when I met him that I couldn't think of anything interesting to say. I just said "Our cat's called Chico Hamilton"
Bless him, he replied " that's nothing, Dudley Zoo named a polar bear after me in 1975"

George "Stroller" Graham?
and the bulge in the front of his shorts isn't a bung...honest.

Nope.

Come on CD, everyone knows that Trevor Francis did not play for Villa.

It's not him. It's another H&V perennial fave. Turn to page 45 of the West Ham fanzine for the answer.

Of course, Eric Woodward.

Eric Woodward is correct of course.
Probably a name unfamiliar to younger fans, but just as important as Doug Ellis and Tommy Docherty in lifting the club out the doldrums in 1969 and transforming what they meant to Villa fans in Birmingham and beyond.

Phil Robinson ?
Phil Robinson is right. Only played a couple of 1st team games and then did the rounds in the lower divisions. Was managing Stafford Rangers a couple of years back, I believe he then linked up again with Graham Turner again.
-
Definately Happy Harry Hampton Villa's best ever Centre forward. The old man used to take an old fella to the matches with us when I was a kid and he used to watch him play and actually went to see Villa beat Newcastle in the 1905 Cup Final played at the old Crystal Palace and Happy Arry got both goals. Played for Villa between 1904 to 1920 in between serving in the 1st World War where he fought in the Somme. Then join Small Heath and helped them win the Div 2 title. Died aged 77 in 1963.
-
Harry Hampton hasn't been posted yet. The bloke above in black and white is legendary Villa, Liverpool and England keeper Sam Hardy.

No. Not either of those two. Jimmy Cumbes looks no different today than he did then, by the way.

Let's try your favourite era: John Dunn

If not John Dunn then the other one from around that time John Phillips I think was his name.

About the only one left now is.......Tommy Hughes.

No. There is still another one left.

You only have to take in the haircut to understand his utterly gormless and gutless contribution to what was a pretty rubbish side by anyone's standards.

Nick, i think youre being a bit harsh about Bobby Parks hair style. Gary Shaw had a very similar hair- do and he turned out ok. ;D

He was as keen as mustard, but ultimately the least talented member of a very poor team.
