Guy Manners (Guy M)
« on: July 19, 2026, 03:33:20 PM »
Posting this on behalf of Tom and the family of Guy Manners:

My brother Guy passed away very suddenly this week.

Before he died, he bought tickets for the two of us to go and see the Real Sociedad match. Our last match together was in Istanbul, which was obviously a brilliant occasion for every Villa fan, but for us it was also the latest in many, many wonderful trips, journeys and adventures together.

My brother would never have allowed me not to use the tickets. He hated any kind of waste. So I'll be going with one of his dear school friends, who Guy sought out in Istanbul so they could also share that incredible experience together.

Guy died at the age of 49, so I have a request. If any Villa fans are at the game and would like to join me, could we applaud and cheer for Guy in the 49th minute?

Now, Guy was many things: generous, kind, loving... but he was also a complete pedant! He would be the first person to point out that the 49th minute actually runs from 48:00 to 48:59. So, if you're joining in, that's the minute he'd expect you to do it.

The photos show the shirts we bought especially for the Istanbul final. I never intended to wear mine again after what felt like a once-in-a-lifetime trip. None of us knew it would also be our final trip together. I'll be wearing the same shirt with "Istanbul '26" on the back and the same scarf we wore on that amazing night, in honour of my brother.

There's another Holte Ender in the sky. 💜🩵

That's a real shock. He was a regular on here at one time.

Jeez.
49 is just ridiculously young.

So sorry to hear this.

RIP Guy.

I head the news about Guy this morning and I’m shocked. I met him through H&V and we had some great times together at Villa games, Wonder Stuff gigs and just random nights out. Was a great bloke and yes, I recall his pedantry and belligerence well!  Deepest condolences to all family and friends.

That's awful news, I met him a few times when living in London back around 2007 / 2008, he was a really great person. Sincere condolences to his friends and family. HEITS

Sorry to read this. My condolences

I was wondering how long ago Guy was posting regularly and see that his last post mentioned being bought a pint by Head Dave :)

Just came onto the site for the first time in MONTHS to see what the latest on PL and the takeover was and instead I stumbled across this way more important thread. Say it ain't so?!

I ended up in the same train carriage to Wigan as Mr Woodhall on the last day of last season, a wonderful occasion that saw me buying what has turned out to be my last copy of H&V and also being bought a drink (yes, an alcoholic one and a whole pint too) by the man himself.

I missed the opportunity to get him a drink back, as someone else had just got a round in before I headed off to the ground, but he told me I could just start buying a subscription or two (I think I had 3 or 4 for various people at one time) this season. Sadly, it was something I was just too damn lazy to ever getting round to do, but by happy coincidence, I did bump into Dave in The White Horse in Harborne a few months ago and was able to return the compliment by buying him and his young compadre a pint of ale each!

I kept meaning to do so and having made it to the Hull game last weekend, meant to grab a copy of the latest H&V as I arrived, but didn't, thinking I'd back-order the entire season once safety was secured. Well, I guess I probably still could, but that it will be missing the final issue. Any plans for a re-print?!
