A couple of Scotsmen took Villa out of Aston Park. Another took them to the world.

Lovely stuff. You've gotta have a Scot to win things.

Enoyed that, thanks Dave. Although, being a pedant, I would point out that Gretna played in the FA Cup loads of times, most recently in 2001. Rangers would have been the most recent members of the SFA to take part.

Very enjoyable read.
Triumphs of the Football Field is a must read for anyone interested in Archie & our early history.
As a bit of a history nerd, I can confirm that there are a few match reports with Sentre/Centre (Archie) and Right/Wright (Andy) stated in the teams line-up. However, the main Birmingham papers (Gazette/Post/Mail) always referred to them by their real names.
In total, he would have played in over 400 Villa games, including League, FA Cup, local cup competitions and friendlies. To be precise, the current running total that I have found (and I am still on the look out for more!) is 382 appearances, however detailed match reports weren't a common thing until late 1880. Much of the matches he would have played in the late 1870s are lost in time. The same goes for the goals he scored, well over 200.
