I just don't care for patriotism.

So I guess when it comes to a sporting tournament played between nation-states, I'm kind of fucked no matter what happens.

I certainly don't care for patriotism, either. I'm watching mainly for underdogs and upsets. I enjoy that no matter the sport.

Is that you Herman?

I've had to do some googling! Not far off him, to be fair.

I think like that, as soon as England go out.

One of the reasons I hate the England team is because they make me want to root against that instinct so there will be stronger nations left to beat England.

Because England winning anything might just finish me off. Unlike the 'golden generation', I have no problem with the players, but to watch the 'it's coming home' twat-horde and media dancing about like they themselves had won the fucking thing.

No, that's unthinkable. So I have to support fucking Brazil, and Portugal, and other teams I despise, just because they're more likely to beat England.

That's an awful feeling.

Nope. But from the other games thread, I gather it's Argentina v Cape Verde?

Yeah, that goal just was a great feeling, I actually squealed! 2-2 108 mins.

Hmm. Come on Argentina, is all I can say.

(See, I'd NEVER say that if England had already been knocked out.)

Meanwhile, the game with Mexico will go ahead at 1am Monday (UK) as originally planned after FIFA back down.
How have FIFA backed down ?
My understanding is that there is bad weather scheduled around the time the match is being played and so FIFA considered changing kick off time but have decided its not necessary after all.

I’m no FIFA fan, but I can’t see what they have done wrong.

In the meantime, the comments on the BBC report are spectacularly ridiculous.
Thinking of moving the kickoff for safety reasons was put down to cheating, conniving, conspiracy and a determination for the ‘Mexicans are trying to fix it so that England are knocked out’.

Those pesky Mexicans and their uncanny ability to control the weather. Bastards !

Another theory I've seen is that the Mexican authorities wanted to move the game to earlier following the scenes after the last game where four people died in the celebrations getting out of hand.
