The emotional investment is definitely lower for England and I'm still in my post season bubble of joy so not much can pop that. Having said which, I would love to see England win a tournament so the emotional side increases the further into a tournament we go. Last night was no jeopardy really.

I think I’ve seen one England flag in my town. They used to be flags everywhere cars flying flags all over the place nowhere to be seen now.
And I’m not talking about the Gammons here I’m talking about the Mum and the kids going around in the car with England flags attached to the wing mirrors the ones that only like Football when England are playing in the World Cup or euros

I was in my local club last night watching it with maybe 50 other people Southgate World Cup it was rammed over 200 people
I remember World Cup as a younger man, and there was a proper excitement and furvor about them, which doesn’t seem to be there now
It doesn’t really bother me. I still support England and want them to win, but it doesn’t seem to be the spectacle that it used to be. Even though we were rubbish most of the time.

Gauge it when the knock outs start. When there’s a whiff of the team doing well they’ll be back in abundance. I do think the flag shaggers have put people off though.

Unless he's talking about the 7pm kick-off against Tunisia in 2018. Which is a much more friendly time than either the Iran or Croatia game, and would be my guess as to why it might have been busier.

My local was rammed, I only stayed for the first half then fucked off on the piss because we were watching Fontaines DC that night. I remember it was a proper wet day, torrential rain.

Come to think of it, that's the last time I watched England in the pub.

So before Covid then which has also probably had an effect on people coming together for things more. But mainly I suspect places will fill up the further England progress.

Because they won’t criticise the ‘big 6’ favourite players at tournament time….Stones looked like a sort time footballer but O’Reilly by far the worst in that back 4 but he is flavour of the month….irrelevant that at 115FC he seems to run around anywhere because he is a midfielder not a competent left back….if we get Portugal/Spain/France at anytime they all have multiple options wide right that will tear him apart.

I still think there will be less though. As you mentioned, having them for specific things like major tournaments or (sorry all your republicans) major royal events did bring a togetherness and a feeling of a special occasion. Having them up 24/7 for the last 6-12 months, getting frayed and filthy, plastic ties slipping to meet each other and wrapped morosely around a wet lampost like an elongated shit-rag has taken any meaning they had away.

I think it has. I've personally never been one for flag waving during tournaments, but if I was I'd now be waving a three lions one instead of a St Georges cross.
