  • Apparently I am my own worst enemy.
Argentina helped plenty of horrific pepple after WW2. There really isn't any need to make stuff up.
So did the Allies.

It's bit weird their fixation with the Falklands, I mean if its meant to wind us up everyone I was with just shrugged and went back to slagging off Tuchel.

Yeah, it's mental. Why do they keep banging on about a war they lost rather than all the tournaments they have won?

It's bizarre to invest so much of your national identity in staking a claim on what is, let's face it, slightly more than one rock.

Like, I know it's a dodgy history, and I know it's a bit weird that the people there want to stay with Britain, but it's an anomaly isn't it? Like, honestly, whatever!

(How sometimes you meet progressive people who take Argentina's side on it by the way, ignoring the self-determination principle in favour of a kind of tankyish 'anti-imperialism', never fails to boggle.)

The irony of a woman called *checks notes* Victoria Villaruel opining that the inhabitants of the Falklands are an artificially implanted population and should go back to England.

Pretty good surname tbf.

Over the last few days, I've heard a few radio interviews with Argentine journalists  and the matter of the islands was discussed.  Without exception the response was the same: that on any reasonable measure of geography, geology, topography or oceanography most Argentinians consider them theirs.  However, as for the 1982 war, it is more often than not seen for what it was: the last deperate throw of the dice of a failing military dictatorship in which young conscripts needlessly died.

Following that logic Britain is entitled to Ireland, or for that matter France.

On any reasonable measure, Kaliningrad Oblast shouldn't exist. Its population is also the most obvious result of ethnic cleansing in modern Europe. To which: oh well! Self-determination is just the way it is.

Judging by the feedback from the game I got last night from social media in Ireland , I am not sure they would be that keen on that

BBC news, while whipping up reaction to "that banner" just attributed an interview quote to "goalkeeper Emi Martinez" while accompanying footage shows his namesake Lisandro making said statement. Unprofessional to say the least.

I phoned the BBC and made a complaint, which was logged. I also stressed that Emi Martinez was owed an apology. Yet this is still available on iplayer (2mins 46sec).

More proof that the BBC is a complete shit show and cannot be trusted on anything

People like Naga Munchetty on a reported £330 per year - FFS  We should move to defund the whole lot of it

£330 p/a is surely below minimum wage. Maybe if this is all the BBC can afford, excessive funding isn't the issue?

Ha. Didn't notice that! I'm as bad as a BBC journalist.

An "entitlement" that over the centuries that Britain, or at least England, has tried to satisfy.

Anyway, I'm not here to espouse the Argentine claim, just note what was said.  I guess the tides of history leave most if not all nations with irritations they need to scratch.  Some of these are profound injustices; some are a minor annoyance that nevertheless becomes part of the national psyche

On the subject of us owning France, or bits of it. I read today that Bordeux are going out of business altogether and will have to set up again as a Pheonix club in the 6th division.

So Micah Richards dad passed away right before he went on air last night, but still did the broadcast. That’s very sad indeed irrespective of what we think of him.

Most newish nations create a narrative. The Irish: the most oppressed nation ever (Prof Liam Kennedy brilliant in analysing this portrayal) the Argentines perpetual victims of colonisation.

In reality British interest in Ireland has been pretty basic. Security because of its proximity.

Falklands different for Argentina as sees it as part of its national territory and therefore its British status an insult to its integrity.
