I wonder if FIFA would make the same bad decision again if it were 2 yellow cards instead of a “debatable” straight red.

What really pisses me off about that whole scenario is how we’ve always been told that we must play to the whistle, adhere to refereeing decisions and that VAR was here to fix all this crap. Ultimately FIFA have undermined the match officials that they hand picked, undermined the VAR system and rules that they’ve enforced upon the game, and made any red card contentious at best.

If US get knocked out FIFA have got away with it and it's contained to this game. If they go through then imo the result of the entire tournament is tainted. When the US go out in the quarters it becomes "would Belgium have won?" That carries all the way to the winner. It's a load of shite, but it's done now.

Yeah you simply can’t have rules not being applied consistently to everyone or exceptions being made for some. FIFA made a rod for their own back with the Ronaldo decision and it’s been exploited by the likes of Trump and his legal team.
