Round of 32.

Second v First. Japan v Brazil.

Second v Second. Canada v South Africa.

It's a joke.

According to the Athletic's bracket projections, Scotland have an 11% chance of playing Mexico in the Round of 32 and a 1% chance of playing Germany.  That's it.

Must be a terrible in limbo feeling being over there and knowing you are most probably out but can't go home yet.

According to The Athletic's bracket predictor;

Dr. Congo 42%
Senegal 32%
Ecuador 15%

Thanks, Ecuador on last nights showing would be an extremely difficult opponent.
They seemed to have boundless energy and some excellent players.
I haven’t seen the other 2.

List of possibilities here.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2026_FIFA_World_Cup_knockout_stage#Combinations_of_matches_in_the_round_of_32

England will be the last column if they beat Panama. Third in K is the default (unless that group's 3rd doesn't top 8 ), which is currently Congo DR who need to play Uzbekistan. If the Uzbeks win then they need to win by 4 clear goals to get above Scotland and qualify. If Congo DR win and Portugal lose to Colombia with a 6 goal swing, then it will be Portugal. The other options I think available is Senegal if they beat Iraq, or Iraq beats Senegel by three goals. If neither I or K 3rd place qualifies, then it is the current listed team which is Ecuador.

US winning. Türkiye equalize shortly after

Why do commentators use that name / pronunciation for Turkey/Türkiye but don't do similar for Deutschland or España ?

For Ivory Coast / Côte d'Ivoire, I've heard commentators use both

It came from an initiative by the country and government to recognize its cultural heritage. That’s the name of the country from 1923. Also at an international level, Turkey in English isn’t exactly something that is viewed positively and mostly mocked. (See England 8 Turkey for lunch headlines…)

because Germany is the recognised English spelling of the name of the country and, as of a couple of years ago, Turkiye is the English spelling of the name after it was internationally recognised as such.
