I would also raise re. the younger fans point and same old faces argument - that pretty much describes the away scheme now. Would be nice if something was done to help people get away tickets more easily. Especially considering it gives you such priority for finals.

I agree, especially as I suspect a lot of people are passing on those tickets, judging by the faces at the matches.

But typically, only the away cup matches give you priority for the finals, and usually that's a small portion of fans. I reckon this time round, it would have been around 2k fans who were guaranteed a ticket based on the away allocations for the games this year.

That's true but you need regular away history to get those European aways don't you?

I went quite regularly during our relegation and championship seasons, but I've pretty much given up trying the last few years as it is such a closed shop. Would be nice to get a chance occasionally (and I'm aware there was a possibility of a couple of European aways, but I mean more league games)

No, European away isn't indexed to domestic away.

There are ~200 with 100% European away records and ~700 with 100% domestic away. <200 of us with both.

Fair enough - have to admit haven't looked at European aways due to the affordability. But point stands for league aways.

Edit - and I do accept there are a bunch of fans who absolutely deserve priority for away tickets, but would just be nice to get the occasional chance.

Actually, a case in point on the new fans thing... my first season ticket was a half-season ticket in 2009. I bought it with my annual bonus and as a reward for quitting smoking that summer. I'd split up with my money-grabbing ex that year, and it was the first time I could afford to do it.

But the following month we beat Blackburn to get to Wembley, and then I discovered I could get a Wembley ticket (to my amazement because I thought a half-season ticket holder wouldn't be entitled to it, but the club told me I was). And I heard loads of people moaning about people like me who jumped on the bandwagon and bought a half-season ticket just to get a final ticket.

Now, 17 years later and I think I have shown my loyalty, and I know a few people from back then who gave up going in the dark years while I carried on. Now people moan that I get to go to so many matches just because I've been going so long!

So I am eternally grateful I had that chance to get in, and I am all for new people having chances too.

If, ahem, we do win, is there a likely date for the parade in Brum? Just trying to see if I could get off work and come up for the day.

You'd imagine it'd have to be pretty snappy with the WC gearing up.

Surely it was more than 2000? Bologna had an allocation of 2500. Admittedly not everyone who went to an away game necessarily went to every home game. But also some people (like me) will have gone to some away games but didn't go to Bologna. I reckon about 3500 - 4000 different people will have gone to at least one away game and most of them will have been to every home game as well.

That sounds high to me, but then they're only fag-packet calculations, so your guess is as good as mine!

Is the ground much smaller than recent Europa finals? Didn't Lansdowne Road in Dublin host it recently, that's not much bigger.

2025 San Mamés, Bilbao. 53,331 capacity, 49,224 final attendance (can't believe it wasn't a sell out so reduction must be a fan segregation thing?)
2024 Aviva stadium, Dublin. 51,711 capacity, 47,135 final attendance
2023 Puskas Arena, Budapest. 67,215 capacity, 61,476 final attendance
2022 Estadio Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán, Seville. 42,714 capacity, 38,842 final attendance

Ignore Covid years

2019 Olympic Stadium, Baku. 69,870 capacity, 51,370 final attendance
2018 Parc Olympique Lyonnais, Lyon. 59,186 capacity. 55,768 final attendance
2017 Nationalarenan, Stockholm. 50,653 capacity. 46,961 final attendance

I could go on

My assumption is it would be Bank Holiday Monday

With players needing to go off to WC squads sharpish my bet would be Friday evening.

Spurs was on the Friday evening last year.

Although we have no-one in charge of the council to sign off on it.

Lansdown/Aviva is 51k. This is the smallest since 21/22 and Covid might have knocked on to those being filled anyway. Last year was 53k and next year is between 53 and 59k depending on the configuration.

Out of 6 season ticket holders in our group none were successful. My mate who is a member and does go to pretty much every game did get one. I could feel put out but that wold be churlish so I’m just pleased for him and his grandson.
