Not really, he still saw him in training every day, he's still the manager he worked with for a year. I'm not saying he definitely does or doesn't want him but "worked with him before" clearly isn't lazy journalism, it's just objective truth.

Linking him to us as someone we want to sign as a result is lazy, but that's not the same thing.

Also we don't have 3 better strikers, that's clearly bullshit, we have 1 who is better and 1 who, at best, is similar to Jackson. I have no idea who the 3rd is supposed to be.

My point exactly is that he saw him in training every day, and then decided not to play him very much, so I don’t see why he would now spend £65m on him.

And I’m putting Abraham and Madjo ahead of him on the count of them not being completely useless and could hit a barn do with a banjo.

He saw a 20-21 year old version of him, players improve as they get experience, this really shouldn't even need to be said.

Putting a 17 year old kid who can't even register to play for us until February shows pretty clearly that you're not trying to be even remotely objective, he scored 14 in 35 and 10 in 30 across his 2 seasons in the premier league, dismissing that as being not as good as a player who has never scored a senior goal is just dumb.

Unai played Danjuma up front (who he'd just paid £20m-ish for) and had also brought in Boulaye Dia (another Senegal international striker who cost £10m), so it's not surprising that 20/21 year old Jackson didn't get MUCH first-team action under Unai the year he left.

But again, this is only relevant if Unai wants him.  IF that's true, then it's undoubtedly influenced by what he saw in training while at Villareal.  Maybe he saw someone with the raw potential to great?  Maybe someone with all the attributes to be a great striker, but who needed first-team experience before being ready for Villareal's first team?

Either way, if he saw nothing in him at all, there is simply no way he's buying him now.

Nobody guarantees us anything. Keeping Watkins is as much of a gamble as replacing him. It's not like he can fall back on his technique if his body starts to decline.

I have tried doing that in these later years and let me tell you it doesn’t work, they are left disappointed. Technique is overrated🙁
