Speaking to somone tonight on Jackson and how we could be “creative”. Suggestion that taking a hit on a low initial fee then contingent add ons, like certain appearances etc would be a way of only shaving a small amount off and actually logging it as a “swap deal” as the upfront fee would be the only one officially registered

Why do so many want out and should we be worried about what's going on?

Strangely after successful periods it’s naturally a good time to reflect and ask “have I now achieved all I wanted to here”? Fresh challenge elsewhere. Pretty natural

Defo aided by the fact we have to be creative due to the bullshit rules.

As long as Unai is here I’m very relaxed

Quite excited about the potential of a younger, faster more aggressive Villa side

See where we are when window closes

If Villa really have the pick of Chelsea's litter, it would be better getting Delap over Jackson. I mean they're both crap strikers but Liam is younger, English and more likely to command a world British fee when we flog him on in two years after getting an assist in the 2028 euros. The big money is in the young english lads.

I might be being thick but I’m not getting it. I’m not ruling it out because 1) I like Jackson and 2) the clubs’ lawyers and accountants know more than me.

However, as far as I know, we can’t loan two players from one club, and we can’t buy anyone from Chelsea for 45 days without UEFA classing it as a swap deal and slashing the profit we hope to book from Rogers. Still, I suppose whoever we buy, it’s slashing (in real terms) the profit we make from Rogers.

In this theory/scenario - it wouldn’t be a loan - would be a permanent. Just one where the upfront fee is small and rest is built on contingencies

But it doesn't matter how small the initial fee is, we're still buying a player within 45 days? If anything, it looks way more dodgy than just lumping it all upfront.

I just don’t see how we get Jackson and navigate the rules.

Two very creative clubs.

From my understanding, if the deal is in progress at the close of the window there are 30 days (?) to conclude the deal.*

Yes and we are allowed to buy someone within 45 days. The fee just comes off the profit of who we sold.
So if we bought someone for say £20m and loads is add on’s linked to appearances etc then the initial fee would only come off now. The rest later down the line when “triggered”

Is the 45-day rule an actual rule or something they kook at if the values look dodgy?

Chelsea sell to Strasbourg who then sell immediately to Villa.

Its a factor to consider amongst several. I posted them yesterday.

I get it and thanks Vinnie

I expected some evolution this summer but I wasn't prepared for the level of clear out we have seen and the departure of three coaches.

Given how 'up against it' we always are I am just worried that too much change at once might see us drop off like Newcastle have and once that happens it becomes even more difficult as they found this summer.

Unai is the key, of course, but I wouldn't like to see any other big hitters leave

My concern is that we are selling proven premier league players like Ollie and talk about Jackson coming in who has tried and failed in the premiership. It is really depressing to see the stranglehold the top four or five have in the amount of money they can offer players.

I used to like football and the summer transfers. Used to be so easy.  In’s Dalian Atkinson, Steve Staunton, Paul Mortimer, Cyrille Regis. Outs Ian Ormomdroyd, Chris Price, Derek Mountfield.
