I find it hard to believe that after winning a trophy and qualifying for the CL, six key players would want to piss off. This would never happen at any other club so why ours?

They might want to leave BECAUSE we won a trophy.  That might have been their summit at Villa and they now want to tick off some other career goals.

For me that night was definitely the end of the era rather than the start of another one. Ripping out the heart of the team in one transfer window is a whole other ball game though. Konsa and Rogers were hardly on an exit plan. I still think Konsa and his arm waving will stay. Worried about Ollie

Any player approaching 30 is going to be thinking about one final big move to secure his finances after years of spunking cash on stupid haircuts, tattoo's, £200k champagne, expensive lifestyles and kiss-and-tell pay off’s.
There is never really a “good” time to leave a club, but leaving just after winning a trophy gives players the perfect exit. In their own minds, they piss off with their heads held high, knowing they finally delivered something historic.

And because it was the club’s first trophy in years, they will always be remembered as “the boys of ’26”. They can come back years later and be treated like gods. From their point of view, this is probably the safest possible moment to cash in and move on.
Look at Leicester City's 2015 heroes, most of them were on their toes that summer didn't even fancy playing in the champions league

It is, so any fees we get and split in 3. In addition there is no 'reset' in SCR. It's purely a ratio of costs to revenue so if our revenue stays the same or rises then any costs saved this summer carry on until we increase them again. FER has a degree of reset but again so long as our costs stay lower and our revenue holds up we're fine on that.

The only bit that has any form of reset is our settlement agreement with UEFA but that resolves if we meet SCR and FER targets so a reset this summer would see that not in play next year.

Outside of the obvious, how exactly does getting out of the settlement agreement benefit us for say next Summer? What can we do then that we can't do now?

Every player is open to leaving. Just as every club is open to every player leaving. For the right price.

The way we work is telling every player what we'd accept for them if they want to go, and their agents then know what they're working with.

Arsenal are like the new Spurs, always trying to lowball, which is why they lost out on Rogers. And why they'll not get Konsa. Juventus are a joke, so there's no way that move for Martinez is happening. As for Watkins and Fenerbache, why would he want to go there to finish his career, because that's what his next move would be.

Earn more money than he would anywhere else. He's got a trophy win and probably a soon-to-be-dwindling international career, now make tens of millions of pounds.

Which is likely fair - without being defeatist. However, if we use every buy and every sale as a way to step forward, not just keep us in our place, then as a club we can keep progressing until one day, hopefully, we actually become the destination not just part of the journey.

The only thing the settlement is adding on top is the restriction that the squad costs specifically for the UEFA 'a' list cannot increase in value, even if changes outside that move us into 'safe' levels for SCR and FER. So for example any profit we booked for Barry, Barrenechea, Dobbin, etc isn't counted in specifically for the terms of the settlement. If we sold Guessand tomorrow it wouldn't make any difference to what we can spend in this window. However next season that restriction will hopefully not be there so we can then sell players like that and use the money to fund the UEFA squad.

As it stands Tielemans, Rogers, Digne and the Onana injury mean we've got a massive overhead there anyway (with wages, amortisation and the first year of the fees we'll have something around £80m to work with, before new signings are counted). If we could also include more general sales we'd obviously have the squad sales which is probably another £35-40m (with Malen as well as those above).

Emery got a massive tune out of this squad and whilst it’s difficult to lose the likes of Morgan and Tielemans, the breakup was inevitable. Just like Ron Saunders, Emery will rebuild the side to remain competitive. I think we are two or three players Short, but I thought that last year too. Whoever wants to leave, can go, as long as we get the right money for them, I trust Aston Villa to do the right thing.

Weirdly I can see Konsa at Liverpool and Watkins ending up at Arsenal.

Our interest in Jackson is driven from somewhere - most likely a decent knowledge that we need to replace Ollie soon. His chapter at Villa has reached a beautiful conclusion, I can 100% understand him wanting to go.

I think 1 of the 3 will leave come deadline day. I would most like to keep Ollie, I think in the dressing room he sets a tone with professionalism etc, and you don’t want to lose that. Konsa is replaceable and we can get someone more comfortable and progressive in their passing at the back with the right scouting.

Emi - unless it’s £20 plus million, what is the point! Find a better keeper under £30 million plus. Yes he is knocking on, but surely has a couple of seasons easily in him.
