No to J Rowe for me. Beyond one good game against us what is it that makes him a particularly compelling signing?

Clearly knows his Villa history. Got sent off in Bologna's 4-0 thwacking by Arminia Bielefeld for doing a Dublin-on-Savage tribute.

If we get Mbeye for c£50m I’d be cock-a-hoop. Swapping Rogers for him plus a big chunk would be exceptional.

I’m actually quite excited

I quite liked the look of Rowe when he played against us. I am not too worried about the 'signing players that played well against us' hoodoo. These days they are coming from good European teams rather than relegated clubs and / or Coventry City.

I wasn't keen on Sommerville, but he had some good performances for the Netherlands in the World Cup. Mbaye would be the exciting one. Glad we haven't gone for Bowen. Would love to see Rashford come back.

Regards Rogers I guess Manzambi is the replacement. Gomes will replace Tielemans. Paulinha, if he comes, would replace Onana. We also have the return of Kamara. That is a pretty good midfield. I'd still consider the return of the prodigal (Grealish) to compete with Manzambi, who is young and inexperienced.

Estupian for Digne is like for like but younger and lower wages. Happy with that.

Still need a right back, the rumours about Emmerson Royale don't seem to be going away. Underwhelming, but then so was Lindelof and he turned out very well.

It is a major rebuild. Any more out? I could see Konsa or Watkins being sold if good offers came in. Purely on the basis of extracting value whilst they still have it and before contracts run down. I am cautious of too much change too quickly though.

This feels more like we sold Platt and bought half a team, than when we had to replace Grealish. It's certainly exciting anyway.

Would love Rashford back

Would have to take a drop in wages, is our top line £150k p/w? Surely that amount plus bonus's and being one of the first names on the team sheet could lure him back.

What are United after for him though? £20-£30m would be fine for a player who was quality for us before and can play in 2 positions

Bollocks to Jack or JJ, neither are good enough and we need to look forward not to the past.

The problem is Rashford's wages have just gone up again, as all the rumours state he gets up over £300k a week when Man Utd are in the Champions League.  As much as I'd love him back, I think it only happens if Utd agree to 'eat' part of the contract they gave him, and I don't see that happening.  He's not getting £300k a week here, and I'd be surprised if we went to £200k for a single player under the current SCR regime restricting us.

If we think of Gomes as the Tielemens' replacement, I think we might be a bit disappointed.  Gomes might be the better allround midfielder, but I've not seen anything that suggests he can pick the passes Youri could, in his role in OUR side.  Not many can.  It might be he's just not had the chance to show that side of his game at Wolves (which wouldn't be that surprising), but Youri's ability to play balls between the lines was massive for us and our ability to get up the pitch.

As others have said, it might mean a change to the way we play (like ditching the high line after Unai's first full season), but I worry that thinking of him purely as Youri's replacement in our current style and line-up might lead to a few unfair comparisons when he's played a few games.

You’re right on that metric alone but Gomes’s athleticism trumps Youri. A subtle change in tactics might be needed.

Anyone who thinks we can spend vast amounts of money off the back of the Rogers sale might be in for a shock.

Manzambi is the replacement they've chosen. They will now sign a winger for 40-45m a replacement left back for Digne, and possibly add a loan midfielder to cover Onana and add cover at right back.

They'll also sell Watkins and Konsa if they get a suitable offer.

We're where we are because of some of the wages we've handed out in the last two years.

Unai will make us competitive but he may have to try and reintegrate Guessand or add a youth player to the squad.

Indeed, but that was the metric that represented Youri's value to our side.  He wasn't in our midfield to cover miles, he wasn't there to make tackles, he wasn't there as part of a pressing unit.  He was there to get the ball on the half-turn and find passes to move us up the field - and he was VERY good at it.

I think you're right about a potential change of tactics, or at least a change to the slowly-slowly-catchy monkey approach of last season.

Jack played in a middling side and I’ve a feeling JJ has topped out as a good player, but nothing more. We need to be trying to level up.

You'll be surprised how good Gomes is playing a pass, you just didn't see it enough in that team.
