Well, according to reports we were already looking at buying players this summer and were intent on keeping Rogers.

Our issue is with UEFA SCR which is January to December. So far in 2026 we have already sold;

Malen £21m, Barrenechea £10m, Tielemans £35m, Dobbin £9m, and Barry & Swinkels for a small figure. We also look like Digne is off for £8m.

So that's £83m of income, and three first teamer wages off the books, two of whom are amongst our highest earners. At least £35m of that is pure profit from Tielemans.

We've so far bought Alysson £9m, Madjo £10m, Abraham £18m, and Cisse £4m. That's £41m, but only £8m in 2026.

If we buy Gomes for £38m and Manzambi for £50m, only 6 months of their 5 year cost will apply in 2026. So that's £9m.

So that's an additional spend so far in 2026 of £17m, set against a profit of at least £35m (plus whatever we have made on the others), still leaves us wads of filthy cash to chuck about the place like drunken lottery winners.

Why do we only include a fifth of their costs? When do we include the rest? I’m assuming another 5th next year and the years after, right? So shouldn’t we be including a fifth of all the signings we’ve made over the last 5 years. Or have they all disappeared?

UEFA spread transfer revenue over 3 years. Most of the revenue is driven by people who weren't in the UEFA squad so don't count towards the more punitive settlement agreement...

Okay, but still we are talking about £17m... it's not some huge figure that means we have to sell yet another player.

Why do we only include a fifth of their costs? When do we include the rest? I’m assuming another 5th next year and the years after, right? So shouldn’t we be including a fifth of all the signings we’ve made over the last 5 years. Or have they all disappeared?

Because you effectively 'spend' the transfer fee bit by bit over the length of the contract. So if you buy a player for £5m on a 5 year contract, you have swapped £5m of cash for £5m of player - so you haven't spent anything.

Each year, the number of years left on the contract reduces. So if he was worth £5m with 5 years left, he's now worth £4m when there are 4 years left, £3m with 3 years, etc. That means you are 'spending' £1m per year for 5 years on that player.

And yes, we are still spending on all of our signings every year. But the key bit is that when we buy new players we are increasing what we are spending every year. And our problem has been that we are spending too much every year compared to our income.

I still think there will be another major outgoing to fund the rebuild.  Sorry to piss on your chips.

Well we can only get bucketloads for Watkins (40m) , Konsa (50m) or Rogers (100m)

We will only sell another big one  'If'  someone comes up with the price we wont mind taking for them.

im quite excited at the moment ,  hopefully 2 players coming in who like a  tackle , a ball carrier in the Swiss guy.   Bogarde can go ,  I like the look of the LB from Milan.

I think a pacey right winger to come .

Wages and age coming down with still prem experience  :)

Yes, this makes it all the sweeter. Although, we are then a bit hypocritical complaining about clubs stealing our players.

Stories doing the rounds that we're looking at Joao Palhina from Bayern?

Here are the numbers:

Bayern want rid of him - he's surplus to requirements and spent last season on loan at Spuds

They signed him on a 4 yr deal in 2024  after 2 seasons at Fulham and paid €51m plus €5m in add-ons. He's on €10m a year.

He's got 2 yrs left on his contract, so his book value is €20.5m, add-ons are contingent liabilities don't affect book value.

So would we want to pay what Bayern are owed for a player who turned 30 last week and who will want c £8.5m pa in wages? Not for me.

And a loan is equally poor value - Bayern want a €5m loan fee and all of his wages covered too.

And let's not forget, he crocked Bouba so the antipathy from the fanbase will be pretty strong. Then you can factor in an average of 13 yellows a season over his 3 seasons in the Prem.

Wouldn't touch him with a barge pole.

Loan is perfectly fine. There will be no antipathy from the fanbase. None whatsoever.

He had great statistics at Fulham, didn’t really take much notice of him last year at the times he wasn’t crippling our players.
