A real shame that the Cup winning side is being broken up. Some key players leaving, added to Onana being ruled out for most of the season will require some top class replacements. I trust Unai to get this tricky situation right.

It is but sensed we all thought the team had run its course as they are ageing. I was desperate for the Istanbul win as I couldn’t see the squad reaching a peak again. I’m all for a freshening up as long as we get decent players in (no Guessand/Sancho level please)

RedMancs move for YT is clever: not only good price for a proven international playmaker but also potentially weakening a rival in the same move. Bastards.

Disappointed to be losing at least two quality players in Tielemans and Digne but now is probably the best time to start rebuilding a new team with a lower age profile from a position of strength. We can offer Champions League football and a world class manager. Plenty of very good plyers would want to come to Villa.

In the cold light of the close season it's clear a few things needed to change from last season. It was probably our worst under Unai for creativity, speed of attacking and more poor performances that in previous seasons. Just a shame it's some key professionals and the some longstanding players. (if the rumours are true)

Personally, I thought this kind of change could have happened last summer, after we'd finished the season on a low and the "one last push" looked beyond that group. Our early season form seemed to crystallise that.

But I suppose the financial restrictions we were operating under put paid to that.

Thank McGrath for that amazing autumn/winter run and last few games which, taken together, have at least meant that we can take the scalpel to the squad with a modicum of control.

I read somewhere that Barcelona are looking to sell Ferran Torres. If the Watkins to Turkey rumours are true then wouldn’t be a bad replacement.
