It’s plainly obvious Royal is a squad player to replace Garcia. What’s the issue?

The issue I'd have is that I'd prefer to spend money on younger players who can initially compete with, and eventually replace the older bodies.

Rather than spending money on players just to pad out the squad.

We’ve just done that twice and neither came off.

We are doing that in other areas of the squad as well, but I guess he just wants someone he might need to trust, a bit like Lindelöf for the right back role if Cash can’t play.

There’s no way we’re buying competition for every place in the side which Brontë is suggesting. In an ideal world and we had the revenue for this league, then maybe. But we haven’t.

My guess (and it is entirely that) is that we rate Rowe highly so we're looking for someone who can do the role for 18months or so whilst we get him another loan and push to see if he will be able to step up.

I think that might be true in a few positions as well; Mosquera, Cisse, Madjo, JJA, Young, Alysson, Burrowes and Proctor (and maybe a few more) all feel like they're being given the chance to 'earn' a place in the first team squad which is why we're not overly worried about the age of players in their positions.

^^ Lovely stuff Paul. Zych is doing well apparently, and Kone (who looks good at his current level) is off to Annecy. Hemmings looked really good in pre-season (especially in that horrible game with Marseille was it?) then had a bit of a ‘mare v Salzburg. I hope he can come back from that.

I really like the look of Burrowes and JJA from your list. High hopes for the three we’ve bought too.

Agreed. It’s just not a big deal at all.

I completely forgot about Kone and Hemmings but yes, they both look very good. With them all here I can totally see why the club might think a few signings for now might be worth it for a year or 2 rather than bigger fees on younger players.

Has a fee been mentioned for Bogarde?

Covers a few positions so may cost a fair whack to find replacements.

Well, I think his primary position is defensive midfielder, and he’s had a big opportunity this year to step up, which he hasn’t really taken.

It could be that Emery feels with Kamara, Onana, and now Lindelof there, Bogarde isn’t really going to feature much.

With Royal coming in as right back cover, it’s hard to see him getting many minutes next season.

Yes and enough folk have seen him to remember what a donkey he was. Cash hasn't ever had proper competition. Mingueza is class, free and available.  Can we not chuck whatever signing-on fee he wants to keep his salary in-line? If we're after his Celta bro, above, it might help him choose us ahead of Woolwich or whoever.
