It looks increasingly likely that Emmerson Royal is coming to Villa, being reported in more places, including the Express and Star.

Beyond difficult to get excited about that. If it facilitates Garcia and Ned going though then maybe that’s a small benefit but he really is decidedly average.

Where the fuck is Mingueza?

Packing his bags for his flight to either Turin or Heathrow (Arsenal).

If it's Arsenal, I hope he doesn't book a flight to EZE.

Unai loves experienced players who can play in the hear and now. However the only way we can quickly build revenue outside of the usual commercial streams is using the model of Bournemouth, Brighton and Brentford. It seems both models can work alongside each other.

And yet fans of other clubs (including the two mentioned there) believe we must be quite good at what we do.

Qualifying for the CL twice in the last three years (should've been three), and a major European trophy.

Those clubs sign players with the express intention of boosting their value and selling them on to a bigger club. The players know this in advance and are quite happy with the arrangement. As per Joao Pedro, Alexis MacAllister and the rest. Play a year or two in the PL and show what they can do.

Players coming to us and other big clubs know we'll put up more of a fight if other clubs show interest. So if biding their time before an offer from Chelsea or the Redscouse etc comes in is the goal we aren't a great option.

They're (usually) coming to us because they believe they have a better chance of success at the club.

We definitely need the hear and now with the need for CL each season. This generates income. Other than commercial income, the only cheat code to bridge the gap financially between us and the other top 4 is the ability to buy a developing player at a modest fee and if successful under Unai sell them on at a huge profit.

It depends how/why he's coming in as far as I'm concerned.  I'd have concerns if it was as first choice, but it won't be.  At £9m you're only really getting punts on players who might be, but probably won't be, any good.  Emerson Royal played regularly in an upper-mid-table Spurs side, so IMO will be absolutely fine for giving Cash a rest when he needs it.  Our only option there at the moment is playing our central defenders out of position, or Garcia/Ned who clearly aren't judged to be anywhere near the standard we need.

I fully expect Unai to follow-up this doozy by splashing the rest of our transfer "allowance" on Nikolas Jackson. Fuck it, if we finish 13th and win the FA Cup kept season, it'll all be just about acceptable.

With maybe a couple of exceptions our team is good enough but the squad needs additions. Emerson seems to fit the bill.

Following up by signing Toshio Lake  from Olympic Charleroi and Cole Palmer from Chelsea would prove that we are a progressive club.

More likely there's a player out there called Fuckup.

Indeed. The reaction has been ridiculous. You'd think we were trying to get Reo-Coker to come back from retirement or something.

I think the football staff have earned the right to be trusted.

We need smart signings that are going to contribute. But also players that with excellent coaching are better than the version we buy. We haven’t had a truly successful transfer policy since Emery arrived with the exception of a few notable players. When I look at what Brighton, Bournemouth, Brentford, even Sunderland have done, put those types of players in Emery’s hands they provide immediate value and potential sell on funds that we need to stay in line with SCR.
