Is it not a case of him not being weighed down with all the demands Unai puts on the players. Palace are operating at lower midtable level whilst we're trying to extract everything we can from players and finish in the top 4. The demands are huge. Maybe he's struggling with all the information and analysis?
Probably, and we will sign players for whom this is the case. In all honesty with my habit of going sleepy in long meetings I reckon I'd have been bombed out in no time so I have sympathy.

I think it's this, but also it seems CP are playing him slightly differently in more of a Rogers role.

There was a slightly strange incident with him in the game last night, not long before he scored his goal.  Basically, a Palace player was put clean through on goal and Guessand, instead of busting a gut to get into a position where he could have accepted a simple tap in, literally stopped stock still and stood there and watched, as the palace player carried on, and had his shot saved by the keeper. It really did look as if it would all have been too much effort for him, and he just couldn't be arsed.

It was Sarr recieving the ball with pace 20 yards ahead and through on goal with Munoz also running through for support. I doubt any other Palace player would be "busting a gut" to try to get near those two from a standing position.

I think AJ2k77 is right - I think a lot of the players we signed are probably pretty good - but dont have the right footballing mindset.

Hopefully his good form for them lifts the monkey's paw curse that makes them the Harlem Globetrotters to our our Washington Gernerals when we meet.

Did we ever actually play him in that position where he looked really good for Nice and has started to look good for Palace - as one of two "10s" behind a central striker?

I'm not saying we should have gone for a completely different system just to accommodate him, but there is a possibility he's a decent player who fits well in a specific system that isn't ours.

Palace fans now seem to be worried that they'll mess it up and not sign him, or we'll try and increase the price.

There's that and the complete absence of a first touch, poor positional awareness, one paced et al. Let's not kid ourselves he was one of those most technically limited players to play for us since we returned to the PL. Palace play in Europe and the PL same as us so that's not a factor.

Bigger issue is that we keep signing the wrong type of player to play on the sides of our midfield. Gallagher I guess was an attempt to address that. Without McGinn we have a black hole on our right, Guessand was never going to be that player. He knew it, the other players knew it and do did Emery.

Can’t argue with that.
His main attribute seemed to be as a defensive winger.

Him kissing the Palace badge after the win at Brighton was a bit cheeky but he probably has a new lease of life, playing where he's more suited.

Incredibly, it looks like we've undervalued him if the option was pre-agreed at £25m when a month ago we'd all probably have been happy with getting half of that.
