There are teams I like (Barça under Guardiola), but that doesn't mean I like the club in question. There are clubs I like to see do well for whatever reason (Napoli), but it doesn't bother me much if they don't. There are clubs I've met through people (Sevilla), and there are clubs I've been to watch because I lived in the city (Venezia) - i.e. a local club.

But if any of them play the Villa I hope we fucking fuck them up and send them home sad and ashamed.

There's some clubs i'd choose if asked who I wanted to win their domestic trophies, Bilbao for example. But I don't give a shit when they don't. Most of the time it's just wanting someone different having some success. I wanted Hearts to win purely for someone different to the usual two. I'd have felt exactly the same if it was Hibs, St Mirren or Alloa.

I keep an eye out on a few other clubs, mostly based on clubs my friends supported whilst I was living away from Brum, and one abroad where I lived and whose matches I attended very frequently (Milan, as work colleagues took me to see them play before Inter).

There are a smattering of other English clubs I don’t mind seeing successful (Forest, Sunderland) for random other reasons.

I don’t have anything like a second club though. It’s not a concept that sits well with me. Especially not a Glasgow one, regardless of my beliefs on any political or historical subject you care to mention, in part because of the sort of argument we see every single time those clubs are mentioned on here.

They’re both fucking horrible in my book.

It was more when I was a kid really. I really liked Celtic when younger because my family are Irish catholics so it was a bit ingrained, I also always wanted all the English and Scottish teams to win in Europe when I was a kid in the 80s. I wanted Forest to win the cup under Clough, JFC I remember being pleased when Norman Whiteside scored the winner in the 85 cup final against Everton (I was 11)Im not sure when it all changed, probably my later teens.
In terms of internationals. Ive always wanted England to win unless they are playing Ireland, Im not even torn then, I want Ireland to win. Its not just my family heritage alone, its all the arrogance associated with the England team in comparison to the patronising disdain for Ireland when those games come around.
My 16 year old is a huge England fan during major tournaments. I mostly want them to win but must admit, where we have been heading socially and politically since brexit, makes feel somewhat disconcerted with what feels like the inevitable nationalism that will splurge out if Engerland do actually win something.

It’s almost as if it’s entirely dependent on the experiences of the individual, and that people should generally mind their own business.

Hearts Women need a draw from their final game but are two down at Hibs.

That means "Rangers" will win the league with a win...

But...

It's Glasgow City 6 "Rangers" 0 😆

You can't really compare the very early days of football when fanbases were being formed with randomly choosing clubs hundreds of miles away a century later.

I just don't get being passionate another football club there's no natural connection to. There's 3 teams for me. Villa through family, Bromsgrove through location in my teens, England through nation. I can't imagine giving a shit about a random other side no matter how much they align with me politically or morally

I watch England for comedy value and laugh when they lose.

I love the England cricket team though.
