Was it the year after Klopp won the title that Liverpool went on a similarly dreadful run of results? Patience then saw them pull CL football out of the bag late on. They wont be winning the league this season but they really should turn it around to finish in top 4 again. Sacking a manager a few months after winning the league title by 10 points would be insanity.
Might also be the case that Slot did incredibly well to squeeze the last push out of a lot of these players like Salah, Robertson, VVD, Alisson. Ferguson did something similar with Man United in his last season, winning league by 11 points but the team was done. Unfortunately for Liverpool, they handed out massive contracts to the likes of VVD and Salah last season when they were cruising to the title. Not easy to move them aside now.
Liverpool, in the midst of dealing with Jota's passing, did make some really poor transfer decisions last summer. There was absolutely no need to sign Isak when their midfield and defence needed urgent investment. Their new full backs are nowhere near the level of the players they have replaced. It's hard to know how good or bad their new forward players are. Jota and Nunes kind of accepted their roles as impact players off the bench, the likes of Wirtz and Etikete are still trying to figure out what their role is. Hard selection decisions required by Slot there.
