Just heard an Arsenal caller on 5 Live saying he thinks Manyoo can take a number of points off the big 6 this season.

Not sure if it was a snide dig or not.

Manure have been regularly raising their game against bigger sides though, especially under Amorium. It is when they play crapper sides they struggle more.

Sounds familiar!

Watching chevalier for PSG.  One serious save to make so far. He palmed it into a dangerous area but was helped out by his defender buying a free kick.

And Marseille lost 1-0 at Rennes who had a player sent off.

They should have taken preseason more seriously.

Re the Palace disallowed goal. A rules has been dug up which I’ve never heard of and I’m pretty sure hasn’t been enforced before. Seems like a case of protecting the Big 6. Can someone explain what I’m missing.

I remember the rule being announced several years ago, if you hadn't I can't help you but it was obvious always being enforced just that it has never usually been used to stop a goal. The ref is always moving attacking players from too close in front or behind, or too close to the sides when the freekick is setting up before the whistle.

In this case the Palace player was positioned far enough away so the ref blew his whilstle to carry-on. However before the ball was kicked the palace player had manouvrerd himself and the Chelsea player into the wall and was obviously interfering. He obviously didn't spot the movement but VAR did. I didn't see it live, just the fallout after but was he sent to video or just told over the earpiece?

I certainly remember the rule being introduced, but I also thought it had subsequently been withdrawn - or perhaps I had simply assumed it had been withdrawn, on account of the fact that the rule has been ignored for so long.

I know one side they’ll take 6 points off this season no matter how badly they play

My memory is clearly not great. I’m not doubting the law exists but a cursory glance on Twitter gives at least 3 recent examples where goals have been scored in the same circumstances and not disallowed (Chelsea benefitting vs Bournemouth last season). The issue is inconsistent application. I’m not against VAR per se but it cannot be applied inconsistently.

If chelsea scored  that there is absolutely  no chance that gets disallowed. Its like the one against us ve manure a rule no one knew about.

Its funny when these "rules" come into light its always the smaller club that gets fucked over.

Anyone remember  that penalty manure got after the final whistle blew i think it was against brighton a few years ago? Another example

Until the super cup game last week I didn’t realise he was the Lille keeper in our shoot out 18 months ago

The one for Chelsea should have been stopped then before kick-off and he. However neither player touched a Bournmouth player unlike the Palace player pushing the other player into the wall. As we found out with Ramsey(?), when you get such "movement" off the ball VAR will be drawn to it.

If you want to post the other two examples I could probably give reasons why that one wasn't called as well. The trouble is because Refs have for years allowed loads of pushing, shoving, shirt and arm holding in the box at set pieces, there will always be discrepencies when something is called. I would have called it for the pushing the player out the way with no attempt at playing the ball, but I suspect loads of examples of that being allowed would be found.

I would also point out that at the start of the season, you also get rules enforced more stringently after "training" as certain ones get pushed from on high, then they soon start dropping. A couple of seasons ago, the third non-captain player who approached a ref recieved a booking and after a spate of those and at least one sending off for second yellow, it was quietly ignored.
