I'm a season ticket holder. My phone is too old for me to be able to add my ticket to google wallet. I can see the ticket on my app with a red line swirling around the QR code. Will that be enough for me to get in the ground tomorrow?  Any advice much appreciated. UTV

Yes I think so, adding it to the wallet is an extra step for those who want to do it.  The video I watched on this page said it works in the app.

The not very helpful guidance is:

"I have an old phone that does not support the latest version of the app, what are my options?

All supporters will need to access their match tickets in the app this season, therefore if your device does not support the latest version, you will need to replace your device to be able to attend games at Villa Park going forward. For iOS (Apple) devices, you will require a device running iOS 16 or above and for Android (Google) devices it will need to run at Android 14 or above.

We regularly review and revise which Operating Systems our app supports so that we offer a stable and secure experience for fans. As with all other apps, this can mean dropping support for older OS versions, which means new app updates are then no longer available. This usually happens around the release of Apple and Google OS updates in the latter half of the year."

I reckon they would probably issue a paper ticket for tomorrow if you get there early, but I'm not sure. Whether they would be willing to issue a proper card or paper tickets for the rest of the season rather than expect you to buy a new phone before the next game, I don't know.

“ How do I use my ticket on matchday?
App ticket

When you arrive at the stadium, access your ticket via the official Aston Villa app and hold your phone, screen facing towards the reader, against the barcode scanner at the bottom of the turnstile reader. Please note, each ticket is single-use and cannot be transferred after entering the stadium.

NFC ticket

When you arrive at the stadium, access your ticket via Apple Wallet or Google Wallet, and hold your phone, screen facing towards you, against the contactless reader at the top of the turnstile reader. Please make sure your phone isn't locked when you hold it against the reader, if you have any problems, you may just need unlock your phone and try again. Please note, each ticket is single-use and cannot be transferred after entering the stadium.  “

TLDR: Reading that as long as it’s showing in your app you are good to go. You don’t need to add it to apple wallet or google wallet.

Ah, apologies if I gave rubbish advice then (I would still be tempted to arrive early just in case, mind).

Yes, that red line swirling is literally how it works - the QR code updates every x number of seconds.

The animation is to make it even more obvious to someone looking at it that you're not using a shared screenshot (which would not work when they scan it in any case).

You don't have to piss about adding it to wallets or anything.

I reckon it is a mistake and the charge is because he was trying to forward outside of his friends/family and direct to another FAN ID. Only within those 8 should it be free, anyone else should be charged.
You can only forward to people in your group on your account

Don't know if this has been mentioned, but I set one of my friends to App Sharing and my Newcastle ticket has appeared in their ticket section of the app.  If that's the case what's the point of forwarding it if all you need to do is set it like that, or will that not work?

I am at a loss what to do and any help would be appreciated.
I have my season ticket and 4 others that I bought for members in my wallet without the bar code but a symbol at the top. My app now shows the tickets with a QR code with a red line running around it, these won’t go into my wallet as it states that they are already added. Do you think that we will gain access with these?
I've got the same problem with my own single ticket. Also, I received an email suggesting I can print off the ticket: don't have a printer!

How to get into the ground indeed!  >:(

You "print as PDF" and save the file to your phone. Then just show the scanner the scan code. "Printing at home" in these cases is just a byword for it not being in the app and a totally seperate ticket whether paper of computer file.

The first person to "install" the ticket on the phone gets it and is removed from access from anywhere else is my understanding based on instructions posted here.

Also do you trust your friend not to do stuff in the app under your username and password?

They don't have access to anything in my App under my username, they are logged into with their username has my ticket in their ticket section. When I change the relationship status from App Sharing to just friend my ticket disappears from their app.

So doesn't that mean just set app sharing instead of using the clubs forwarding would work?

Well you and your mate are the test subjects. Never used the Appsharing on anything so wasn't aware how it worked, (assumed it "logged" the other account in as you).
