To be fair, Emery's always played strong sides in the FA Cup. The only time he didn't was Stevenage at home, and I think he was justified in thinking the side we put out that day would beat a League Two side comfortably.

Starting line-up.
Olsen
Cash
Chambers
Bednarek
Augustinson
Sanson
Dendocker
Luiz
Bailey
Ings
Coutinho.

So a weak defence but the attack, whilst not filled with first teamers should  have done more the 3 shots on target. Especially with Buendia, Watkins, Young, Digne and Ramsey actually all on the pitch when they scored their two goals.

They offered absolutely zero threat all game until they scored, twice.

Dendoncker fucked that game up with his donkey first touch that got him sent off. Terrible signing. Was it him and the Southampton lumbering carthorse purchased as 2 total panic signings in the same week?

Just watched it back and it ended with the usual slow reactions of Olsen being beaten at the near post by a shot I could have saved.

Easy to say in hindsight but they were two of the games finest at looking managers in the eye.

Yes, Dendoncker was the main player at fault, after Sanson had scored for us I think.

Augustinsson was a dreadful player too.

                   Emi

Garcia    Konsa      Mings      Maatsen

       Tielemans       Kamara

Bailey            Rogers            Ramsay

                   Malen

Subs:
Olsen
Digne
Pau (on at 70 mins to get mins as i want him fit for PSG and breaking their press)
Onana (on at 60 mins for Kamara)
McGinn (on at 60 mins for Bailey - just to tighten up)
Rashford - only if needed as played twice in last week
Asensio - should not need him against Championship team - save for Brighton
Watkins (on at 70 in readiness for starting against Brighton)
Bogarde

Without taking anything for granted we will undoubtably have a lot to contend with early enthusiasm from players and home crowd, but surely the quality of our team / squad will see us through in the end.

Come on you Villa boys - its within touching distance now

Martinez
Disasi Pau Mings Maatsen
Kamara Onana
Asensio McGinn
Malen Ramsey

I think with Brighton on Wednesday this sort of line up should be for Preston.
Enough here to get a comfortable 2-0 win.

That formation looks too boxy. Where's the width/Withe ?

I've made same mistake as you FV, Disasi is cup tied.

But FV is so good with his footballing insight he might be putting him in as he knows the FA will withdraw that rule for the quarter finals.

So I thinking maatsen step forward! He likes his forays.
And malen at times drifting out wide right
Asensio arriving and Ramsey direct running from the left inside as a 10 and outside with help from Maatsen
it’s fine in transition and for football
Works well in and out of possession .

Well if he’s cup tied then it can be Cashy.

My first thought was to start with Rashford, Malen and Bailey. Lower league clubs struggle with pace but I cant see him starting all three. I reckon he'll start Garcia.
