Right, but it’s not really the league materially impacting us right now, it’s the UEFA ones. Now I don’t like it, but I don’t think UEFA are setting anything up to support the ESL breakaway teams.

UEFA can probably just about stomach 6 English clubs pretty much blowing all the other European clubs out of the water financially (apart from 3 or 4 obvious exceptions), but wouldn't want any more (and I bet those 3 or 4 aren't wild about other clubs challenging their positions either).

Yep.  Bournemouth being able to potentially outspend Juventus isn't allowed.

Narrator: This summer Bournemouth have spent around twelve times as much as Juventus have on transfer fees.

But they probably couldn't if they were in Europe, unless they flogged all their better players (which they have done this year), which would make it pretty tricky to get into Europe...

But the reason they've spent 12 times as much as Juventus is that Juventus are in pretty much the same boat as us. They've spent loads in previous seasons so can't do anything on wages until they were able to punt Dougie out to Forest and until they can find someone desperate enough to take on Vlahovic's massive salary. They're being "stopped from competing" every bit as much as we are.

So if UEFA are trying to rig it to benefit the old money clubs of Europe, they've done a pretty shoddy job of it.

Twitter seems to be suggesting Asensio is a done deal ( not the usual trusted ones to be fair )

His instagram does say @avfc though.

It's not so much that they've intentionally taken a snapshot. It's that they've tied everything to commercial revenue, making it very hard for clubs to bridge that gap, especially when they then add all sorts of rules to stop teams from finding 'creative' solutions to increasing that revenue. It means teams with the biggest sponsorships have a built in advantage and you get those big sponsorships by being in the champions league, so it becomes cyclical.

This is the part that boils my piss. Rather than looking at the overall financial health of a club, which UEFA claims their rules are in place for, they look at revenue in isolation and are happy as long as you have sufficient to service your debts however monstrous they might be. We get absolutely no credit for being debt free.

Mind you, Bournemouth have made around £200m in transfers out - e.g. Kerkez, Zabarnyi, Ouattara and Huijsen were all sold for more than £40m each.

Is this a bit reminiscent of Bruce's last minute trolley dash after NSWE took over? Getting in likes of Bolasie on loan when we were stuck for a centre back

I hope he’s paying his own flight over. Would save a few hundred quid.

The Ryanair Paris Beauvais to Brum arrived at 15.45. We'll soon hear if he was on it.
