I expect the Brighton one, the ref stated he didn't see the contact, hence the VAR review. Friday he did see it and ruled not enough contact to be classed as a foul. If he had given it though, VAR was never overruling it.

Watching the MOTD highlights, there was one stage when Maatsen AND Garcia were around their penalty spot. I did notice Maatsen seemed to making most of his runs passed Rashford into the box so I believe he was told to drift in to pull defenders out from the centre.

It was great to see AEG at the end coming to the Holte and us giving him his rightful respect and overdue send off. He wasn't one of our greatest ever players but he somehow struck a chord with us , it was a great moment . He seems a really top person.

Just watching the goals again and both of them could have been Watkins'. The first one, it looks like Rashford is trying to square it across the goal, where Watkins is waiting for it, but it hits his calf and possibly the defender and deflects back to where Asensio is. The second one, the pass is coming to Watkins but he maybe gets a shout from Asensio who is just behind him, because he moves out of the way of the ball, and Asensio scores.

The second one, he might not have scored from it given where he was, but the first one I think he scores if the ball had come to him.

Not much point to this post, I just thought it was interesting how Watkins was in the right position for both goals.

Are we talking about the one where the no vowels player got the edge of his boot tickled by Bogarde? That is never a penalty.

Bardell’s 1874 podcast had AEG on last midweek. Seemed a nice humble bloke.

I shall start following Cardiff as my Championship side.  They have some decent players.

They should have played some of them on Friday.

Only kidding.

I'd be more inclined to think they should be playing some of the ones from Friday a bit more often.

They gave a good account of themselves and were very unlucky on the pen call.

I wasn't too impressed, tbh. Reminded me of when we went to Tottenham in the cup when we were in the second tier, and you got the impression we were quite happy so long as we didn't get absolutely twatted. Even when they were behind they didn't really attack. I know there's a gulf in resources and they had players out, but even so. Plymouth put in a much better performance at Man City, by comparison.

Different game plan , sat in as they know we struggle with parked busses. They get that pen it's a diffferent scenario.

Maybe, yes. Still seems a strategy that offered a pretty low chance of success, hoping you'd score with pretty much your only chance, while weathering 90 minutes of solid pressure. I think they'd be able to hold their heads up higher if they'd have a proper go and lost 3 or 4-1.

Their manager said beforehand that they basically weren't trying to win. They have a huge challenge to stay in the Championship and that's where their priorities lie. He didn't set out to get beaten, as such, but he clearly had no interest in having to play another game outside of their league.

I'd imagine some of the players who don't usually play were eager to give a good account of themselves and put in a decent performance, even with the defeatist tactics, if you want to call them that. It might work out well for the club in the long run, if they can do it every week for the next few months.
