They leave an island of space when played together  though.
Exactly my point and neither is great at defending.

In that sense, you commit to Rodgers then.
I think if you are serious about being able to challenge for Europe and be successful you need squad depth which we have with players like Assensio.

I agree. It’s more whether we can afford to have Asensio as a squad player. I’m not so sure we can afford him, particularly in Europa or conference league finance.

When we play on the front foot like we have recently against the likes of Brighton, Nottingham Forest, Newcastle et cetera he’s an absolute asset to have within the squad. Play like we did yesterday with the tippy Tappy, sideways, boring football, other than finding a little bit of space for himself and making one or two clever runs to pull the opposition around, he’s a waste of a shirt. A great player but needs those around him to do a lot of his work for him.

Agree. It's all about how we want to play going forward into next aeason. If we want to be a team that takes the game to the opposition, hes an asset. However, if we happy to do that absolute dog shit we saw yesterday (and about 15 times this season, the vast majority of which we lost) then may as well go back to PSG.

I’d love someone like Mateta or Mbeumo, they seem to offer more of an aggressive attack for this league. They turn play into attack so well.

Asensio is amazing to watch and at times makes the game so simple, however we could do with the above type players in our locker.

I love Marco and think he’s fantastic, but to work we need pacy wide players. Also we should be prioritising getting the best out of Rogers.

Yep, Asensio is a lot a wages for a position when we already have Rogers.  I’d prefer the wages are spent on a natural winger, which would hopefully makes greater impact on the first team

It seems that Asensio and Rogers want to play in the same areas, which means we have no width unless its coming from the full backs, and yesterday both full backs seemed wary of the counter so didn't commit forward. We only really looked in any way threatening when Bailey came on, and even then, when he seemed to have the beating of the full back, we were outnumbered 3-1 when the cross came in to Ollie.

Seemed we saved up all of our forward players having an off day for the same day, the biggest of the season.

I still think he's looked more effective when he's come on in games rather than when he's started.  With that being the case, he's an expensive luxury to have.

Asensio reminds me a little of a deluxe-edition Conor Hourihane. Great finisher, decent touch but disappears from games, is physically dominated and off the ball not much use.

We need more pace and physicality in our attack - Rashford or Duran second half yesterday would have given their fuckers something direct to deal with. Watkins was just marked out of the game.

Asensio had got 8 goals (bit of stat padding with likes of Cardiff, 10 man Brugge in all honesty) but one assist maybe tells the tale better. Competing with Rogers for one spot and there's only one winner there. Very much doubt our budget extends to keeping him around next season. Best to focus on Rogers, Malen, Ramsey et al

Palace were quicker across the park, we have to look for players with genuine pace on the flanks. You can see why Asensio struggled to get in the PSG side he is skilfull enough but lacks the speed. This summer will be interesting, I can see a number of suprises coming and going not just the obvious ones.

They have better players than him.

He is one of those players who whilst brilliant with ball is not quite as good without the ball. And it sounds a bit daft but the latter is often more important.
