Paddy McGuinnes came across really well on his WDYTYA I thought so I have revised my opinion of him somewhat.

Oh, and I agree with SE/CDBF.  Not sure what Footy is meant to have done here that's so different from what anyone else does.

The only comment I'd offer here is that generally when things go off topic there's a flow to it. Someone will make a typo that creates a few jokes and we get a page of silliness a people try to think of fish puns or obscure film/TV/music references. Once it settles down things go back on topic and whilst a few people are annoyed at 3 new pages of nonsense it's accepted that's just what happens.

What Footy posted didn't really have any flow with what had gone before so it stands out as a bit odd. It's not something I see as worth commenting on or being annoyed about but it was definitely different to the normal way things get side-tracked on here.

He deserves to be heckled to his grave for unleashing Paddy McGuinness on us.
I think that's a bit unfair.  He's far better on Inside The Factory than that bald chap who used to do it, Greg(g)* Wallace.  I've not knowingly watched anything else with Paddy McGuinness in it mind, so no idea how good he is in those.  But my little girl loves Inside The Factory, so I've watched that a bit and he at least doesn't come across as a condescending prick.

Not a very high bar being better than Gregg Wallace is it?  I've never seen the programme so can't really comment but if your girl likes it and finds how stuff is made educational all well and good. In fact, it's the sort of thing I think I'd be good at myself and I'd add humor to it.  "This is where I used to get a sleep when on night shift, over here is where I'd score an 1/8", this is the welding shop where we'd all disappear from on a Friday lunchtime and sneak out to the Norton Pub."etc.

When he was filming in Vietnam he made someone drive four hours to get him a KFC because he wouldn't eat the local food.

That's mad, if only for the fact that any food from the fast food giants is only edible searingly hot and fresh.

The concept of Just Eat and Deliveroo are a complete anathema to me for this reason more than anything boring like pollution or exploitation.

That doesn't surprise me at all.  I got chatting to his former promoter at a Proclaimers Gig.  He walked out on McGuinness mid tour because of his unreasonable demands and the way he spoke to people. In fact, he kept going on about how much he disliked the bloke.  The worst he's ever had to work with was what he said.

I see as I find, in a heavily edited TV show.

Joking aside, clearly these anecdotes suggest he's a bit of a prick. However, I reserve the right to use WDYTYA and the 60 second interview in Metro (on the rare occasions I now read it) to reach solid and incontrovertible evidence of a celeb's character.

>> Oh, Kay <<
Stiffing the security

Panto season has got theatre types all reminiscing about their most notable celebrity encounters over the years.

Someone who worked at a large venue up north was remembering the time they had Peter Kay in to film a segment for his "Britain's Got The Pop Factor..." parody. Filming was running over, so Kay asked two of the venue staff if they'd mind staying late to keep the building open a bit longer. In return, he promised them both £50, cash in hand.

They agreed. Peter got his extra shooting time. And then did a runner out the back so he didn't have to cross their paths and pay up.

>> Park strife <<
Additional? Revenue?

Last week's Big Question – about the stand-up who insists on being paid a share of venues' car parking as well as his standard fee – led to quite a few people sharing their experiences of him.

One story goes that he told an arena he was playing that he wanted a pound for every car parked in their car park. The management replied that it was an unusual request and not something they'd ever done before; to which he trotted out his well-worn line that punters wouldn't be parking there if he wasn't on, so he deserves a share, etc.

Eventually they concede and the demand is folded into the contract. Come settlement time, the comedian is poring over the details with a fine-tooth comb and sees a figure of £8 a night listed under 'Additional Revenue'. Further investigation reveals this is the car parking money he angled for.

£8? For an entire arena? Are they having a laugh? No, they tell him. He asked for a pound for every car that parked in their car park, and the arena has eight spaces in the loading bay. The big car park he'd had his eye on? That was owned and operated by NCP, outside the venue's control...

NB: It's Peter Kay.

>> Case by case <<
More penny-pinching from Peter

anon writes:
"When Peter Kay did his charity song with Susan Boyle, he asked his video director to bring separate DVDs of each camera's shots around to his house so that he could oversee the edit. At the end of the day, Kay handed the director a carrier bag containing the jewel cases from all the DVDs saying, 'They're 20p each and I don't need them, so take them off of the bill.'"

C writes:
"For one of his TV series, Peter wrote a scene that involved a large buffet spread. Sandwiches, pies, crisps, cakes... the lot. The amount of food wasn't really necessary for the story, but artistic vision and all that. At the end of the shoot he had it all bagged up and took it away. Bin bags of the stuff."

I'd say "tedious" is when dozens of posters take threads off topic, but just one of them is constantly derided and bullied for doing so. The same poster also gets harassed for keeping threads on topic.

Yes.

I slept on it.

There's off topic and then off topic . And you know what I mean.

There's deliberate actions, accidental actions and then just plain wind ups.

My post was in response to "Boo Kamara" and not in a manner suggesting that Kamara has done anything wrong. Should it matter? Probably not in isolated incidents, but it's a constant pattern of behaviour, it's irritating, nobody else does it, and that, added to numerous other things, becomes too much.

You've been there, and left the forum for a bit. I've been there and done the same . But I've been on this forum for more than 25 years and in all that time I don't think I've ever known such a persistent and consistent approach that feels like a deliberate wind-up. I say feels because that's how it makes me react. Almost half my life spent on here chatting to you lot and whilst many wind-up merchants, trolls and ne'er-do-wells have come and gone, or been around a lot there just isn't the same level of intensity and self-regard everywhere on this board.

Anyway, maybe it's just me, maybe I cope with the large part but then get worn down by it. We can read about Ron Saunders, discussions about our better players and tactical approaches to meandering off topic and funny discussions that stick to a theme, to someone that does it completely differently and wants it all their own way.

To then get called out by the very same person on a frequent basis about what they don't like, why everyone else is wrong, why things should work in an alternative fashion, and who tries to dictate the way the forum should work feels wrong to me. They then decide to do their own thing and fuck everyone else anyway before then suggesting we all just move on (before then doing it again. And again. And again. It's hypocritical, it's annoying and it ruins the comfort of this place. For me.

If you like it and enjoy it then good on you, you're better and more tolerant peeps than me. I thought I was quite a tolerant person. I like discussions and disagreements and talking things through. There just isn't the scope to do that though. I express my frustration and am told I'm bullying.

Most people alter their behaviour to adapt to situations, most people on here empathise with the feelings of others, regardless of how much they may disagree.

Plenty of people dislike the politics or reasoning of others but rarely, very rarely, when someone behaves in a way that antagonises others so clearly do they continue in that fashion
