A fellow called Colin Abbot on Facebook said he suggested it to Heck -

The secret is finally out. I said in a meeting with Mr Heck the Villa need to wear the black kit as worn from 1878 - 1880, for two reasons;
It was in this shirt Villa lifted their first silverware in the shape of the Birmingham Senior Cup in 1880 and secondly, Villa were referred to regularly as "The Blacks" in the period.
Mr Heck's choice was to take the red/royal blue hooped shirt and change the colours to claret and blue, I'm thinking "but by changing it, it isn't a Villa shirt. You can't change history!"

Our first shirt was black with a red lion. This replicates that. This looks smart, has no sponsor, and as such I don't see why people are pissed off. As for West Ham, it doesn't matter what they wear. The players will not be confused.

Much wants more but they forgot to price the match tickets at £15.00.....

More surprised they didn't try and charge £150 a ticket to 'celebrate'.

I thought our first shirt was the one mentioned above which was red and blue thin hoops.

I do like the subtleness of the Adidas stripes on it. But it also just looks like a t-shirt rather then an actual football top.

why is the video for the commemorative kit shot in a funeral parlour ?

During a power cut. I need to see it in daylight before I make a judgement.

The main pic makes everyone look like puppeteers who try (and generally fail) to be invisible when, er, puppeteering by wearing all black.

Like the two who used to do Itsy and Bitsy with Susan Stranks on Paperplay.

Looks more like something pub staff would wear, the name of which is obvious.
