I think they had enough of a rest in the second half, yesterday.

Time to change the pace, get some feeling of urgency and expertise back in the camp!

UEFA Champions League
When: Wednesday 6 November 2024 Kick off 18:45 CET 17:45 GMT
Where: Jan Breydel Stadium, Brugge

Brugge are dong very well in the Pro League, currently sitting  second with 24 points from 13 games. However not doing that well in the CL and currently in elimination places.  Still this is going to be tough.

Good test for us, assume Cash is out so that horrid setup with Konsa at RB will return. If he does then Maatsen can push up on other side. I think Emery will play Torres to get Sunday out of his system but Mings can't be far off another start. Kamara to return and Tielemans further forward for a change, Rogers unlikely to be fully fit.

Martinez
Konsa, Carlos, Mings, Maatsen
Onana, Kamara
McGinn, Ramsey
Tielemans, Duran

The horrid set-up responsible for most of our clean sheets and outstanding results over the last eighteen months? Why do you prefer a defence that concedes more goals? I mean, I like other teams conceding more goals, but not my own.

It’s like listening to Frank Lampard’s analysis yesterday, when he said we were hit on the break, despite the goal being replayed in front of his eyes, showing we had ten men behind the ball at the time.

I suppose people who don’t know what they’re looking at watch football sometimes. At least you don’t get paid.

Had a stag weekend in Bruges a few years back. Totally not the place for that type of event.... same as 3/4k pissed up Brummies descending on it!

Loads of us will be making the journey with no ticket, so the hardest thing is going to be finding somewhere with a tv to watch the game - That central square is not gonna know what hit it over the next couple of days!

They're hardly in better form, are they?

Is this the Benteke or the Wesley derby?

Benteke was bought from Genk.

I think it probably will. They're used to football supporters by now.

Liverpool getting a Tuesday game too, gives them 24 hours extra rest before our game
Our players don’t seem to respond well to rest if last week is anything to go by.
fair point

Our defensive structure fell apart yesterday when the much maligned Matty Cash went off, so it's an odd time to be blowing your own trumpet as it were. We were like a pub team for that second goal yesterday, Torres running out into no man's land, Konsa caught behind the line at RB. The Bournemouth equaliser, not organised at front post. Ipswich, pitiful defensive display throughout against relegation fodder. We were rubbish at the back for most of the second half of last season too, Torres form collapsed and Carlos was being his usual self most games so this isn't new, despite the narrative you keep pushing. The defence hasn't been good enough for ages.

I think Emery can start addressing this by going back to basics on Wednesday night by putting Kamara and Mings back into the spine of the team.

Since Konsa got his England caps i think he's gone a bit comfortable , didn't like him laughing and joking on the pitch with their nr 9 either after full time at 1-4 . Please do that down the tunnel or in China White later .

Poor for first two goals anyway. Constantly changing position isn't helping but his form has been a bit mixed so far this season for sure. McGinn and Bailey obviously struggling too. Though I thought Bailey did ok when he came in on Sunday.

Watkins is the one for me that needs a rocket more than most. He's had a petted lip from early on this season with Duran pushing him hard. We are a club competing in the CL with a top young striker in reserve, needs to get it into his head and quickly that last season is history now and he needs to improve his attitude asap. He can watch Duran on Wednesday for starters.

In danger of dragging myself into the RB de ja vu debate, but Cash was on the field and partly at fault for the Bournemouth goal.
Also Torres fell apart a bit yesterday, but the idea his form ‘fell apart’ in the second half if last season, is a gross exaggeration.

Cash/Duran made a mess of their positions. I just think Mings is very good at getting us organised back there.
Torres was very poor after his injury last season, think it was around February. Sure Kamara was a big loss but Torres struggled more than even Luiz.

A heads up in case anyone missed the ticket thread -  Seb has a couple of spare tix. There is plenty of demand but Seb bless him keen to help out those of this parish first.
