I was thinking we'd be mad to be in a position where he could go on a free after the last season and a half he's had for us. If we had to sell him now I reckon he'd be worth a fair bit.

I dunno about a "fair bit". His age and wage mean that his suitors would be limited. Even so, I think a two year extension is more likely than us selling him.

Assuming he was happy with that of course, there was obviously talk that he fancied being back in France the summer before last so might be happy to see out his existing deal.

Emery: "If we are changing the players, Malen for Jaden is the first. Maybe the possibility of two or three players more we can do another deal, until the last days of the window."

Is this an actual quote?

Yes.

So Carlos plus at least one (less anticipated) departure?

Barry, Buendia?  Bogarde?

Definitely a "B".

Given the state of the squad for Europe I'd keep Barry, Bogarde and Swinkels around as they're 3 of the youth players most likely to be able to offer something if we get many more injuries.

I'd guess the outs will be Carlos (sold) and Barry (sold) and maybe Buendia (loan).

Was reading  about that sevilla cb we been linked with. Didnt know he joined forest  on loan and didnt play asingle minute for them. Only made bench once.

But this was the period when forest went football manager mode and signed every player they could get their  hands on

I think Buendia may have pulled off a Villa career saving cameo against West Ham.

Yep, he was very good.  I still worry about him being caught on the ball (which seems to happen to him a disproportionate amount), but he works incredibly hard, and his positioning, turn and pass in the lead-up to the goal against West Ham was top-class.  He's proven he can be useful in helping to break down tiring defences, even if he's probably not going to replace anyone in the starting 11.

That was always him, but until the other night I thought he may never get back the sharpness required.

It was only half an hour but it was enough to put that concern to bed.

In recent hours, Aston Villa has submitted a second offer of just over €4m for Tidiam Gomis — Villa are ahead of Leipzig in negotiations.

Aston Villa have offered €15m + €5m in add-ons for Loïc Badé — Sevilla have now requested €22m + €5m in add-ons + Diego Carlos on loan. @VMScom via @Sport_Witness

It is expected that today there will be a new meeting between Aston Villa & Sevilla to finalize the operation.

If he's half as good as the last centre-back we signed from Sevilla....

I'd go back with €23m but they have to keep Carlos permanently.
