On the train from Leicester to Brum with a load of Bayern fans. Guess they may have flown in to East Midlands?

Stansted apparently. They quite rightly, are extremely unimpressed with British trains. Let’s hope their day doesn’t get any better.
That's a myth.  I've spent plenty of time waiting for German trains to depart or arrive on time.

Just went to the shop and the guy serving me, he barely usually looks up, asked me if I was going to the game - I had my Villa top on. I said yeah and he looked excited for me. Said he thinks we’ll win 2-1, with goals from Tielemans and Watkins.

So there you have it.
Did he have 8 arms or a snout like an African elephant?

It's not a myth that British trains are an abomination, but German trains have got, especially with respect to punctuality, much much worse.

When i was there - both german and Austrian train services were far superior to ours. We must be a bit of a laughing stock for that to them

Just had a look at the Brum Mail ahead of the match and they really are a shower, awful rag.

On this very date six years ago, an Aston Villa fan decided to vent his frustrations at his side's 3-3 draw with Preston by throwing a cabbage at the then-Villa boss Steve Bruce.

After the incident Bruce said that he felt all the decisions he had made during that campaign had been "questioned" by fans and that what he had "witnessed in the stadium was not right".

"The guy who is being questioned, unfortunately, it sums up the society we are in at the moment. There's no respect for anyone," said Bruce.

"I find the whole thing hugely disrespectful."

He added: "The one thing I've always had is the determination to roll up my sleeves and get stuck in. I'll always have a go."

Villa found themselves 12th in the Championship table having won only one of their last nine league games.

Six years on, they are tonight preparing for their first Champions League match on home soil since the 1982-83 quarter-finals against Juventus.
The fact those dates correlate are mad. What a comparison

Im starting to feel a bit queasy with nerves and excitement

German trains got a pasting during the Euros so I'm sure it's making them feel at home. They're not what they used to be

Well it's fascinating reading the thread and I'm enjoying catching up with all the pre match posts. Getting a real feel. The level of excitement is certainly being felt! I
I know my enthusiasm and anticipation is off the scale!

For me, having watched and followed Champions League football, seeing my own team Champions league is quite amazing.
Personally, as a football fan, it's great to see Villa against players I like and admire like Alphonso Davis, Kimmich, and Musiala. Even though that's somewhat exciting, I'm not confused with reality and I'd rather none of them provide any excitement or perform!

Of course the occasion and Bayern Munich match is special for each of us for various reasons. I appreciate the elders, the regulars, and all those members here who watched or remember the Euro final in 1982, and I can only image how fantastic this is, as well as honouring all those who followed us in the lower divisions (years before the championship) and during times that were considered bleak.

It's 2024, and it's far from bleak whatever the result!
I truly just want everyone to feel the moment , enjoy it if possible, and privileges to support our club on this very occasion tonight.

Up The Villa!

I'm strangely underwhelmed at the moment, I was more enamoured when the draw was made. I think it's a combination of the recent weather, a heavy cold and being in close proximity to various members of the T**y Party over the last few days.

I hope it's all a precursor to a memorable night, I'm sure a few pints in Town and the walk up to the ground will get me going. No doubt the tribute to the lads from '82 will have me all unnecessary.

In Brum, just got train down from Mancland, where I have been last few days some, glum faces around Piccadilly when I arrived Sunday.
Met some Irish fellows at reception over for the game.
Working out where and when to have my first beer.

My son is coming with me to this one. Last time we played them his mother would not let me take him suggesting that as he was only eight weeks old he was too young. I have tried on my 1982 European Cup Final shirt which seems to have shrunk but I am determined to wear it. As has been mentioned we are in this competition on merit. Many who were there in 1982 are now HEITS. Do it for them. Many will be there tonight who  have never seen us win anything but have kept the faith. Do it for them. Most of all do it because we are Aston Villa.VTID.

Big decisions regarding the team and set up,  same starting x1 from Sunday? I hope not.
I really hope Emery has got something up his sleeve to sort out our defensive vulnerability..
