The most golden of golden boys it's possible for any football club to to have, Gary Shaw was, is and always will be a giant of Aston Villa. Sincere sympathy to all his family, team mates, friends, colleagues and fans. Such heart-breaking news.

Genuinely one of us, he lived our dream on the pitch on our behalf. Was lucky enough to meet him a couple of years ago and I got to tell him he was my hero.

I was a bit too young to remember seeing him play, but I knew about him, like I knew about Jimmy Greaves and George Best. That's the level of company he keeps. What a loss. RIP.

I didn’t have many ‘Non-Wolves’ heroes when I was young but Gary Shaw was a player I always admired hugely. A fabulous footballer with a great sense of style & a fantastic 80s wedge cut that I tried to emulate by taking his picture in Shoot Magazine to the Barbers.
RIP Gary Shaw.

An astonishingly gifted player. I was lucky enough to see him from his debut to the game at Forest that effectively finished his career for us. Touch, balance, unbelievably sharp in the area, and he made such intelligent runs. He would have been a great player in any era.

My favourite goal was v Barcelona in the Super Cup at the Holte End - instinctively brilliant.

The youngest player in the European Cup winning side and the first to go. I’m absolutely heartbroken.

So sad, the youngest of the 82 Champions of Europe yet the first to join HEITS. How poignant that we play Wolves on Saturday as I remember going to Molyneux and seeing Gary slam a left footer into the net. It’s been a terrible 12 months of seeing our former heroes pass away but this news is the most depressing.
Like a lot of us of a certain age I got to meet Gary in his heyday and it was just like talking to an old mate. RIP Gary Shaw and thank you for some wonderful football memories.

My first sporting hero.  I was Gary Shaw in the back garden games with my brothers.

Genuinely one of us, he lived our dream on the pitch on our behalf. Was lucky enough to meet him a couple of years ago and I got to tell him he was my hero.

I think that’s it, he kind of showed the possible dream to a young boy as he lived it.

All feels a bit odd having been moved to tears yesterday, taught my little ones the song they’ll hear next weekend, called my Dad.

I’ve never thought too much about the need to have heroes and idols, but he was mine at that important age.

So much gratitude for the joy, skill, beauty - all shared at the match with my Dad and sometimes Gramps, and in the playground and beyond.

So much pride given to so many.

Hopefully we can all find the right balance of celebrating the life lived as well as marking the loss.

Love to all.
