I've just seen someone on another villa forum say that he is out of the induced coma!

Not true according to my mate who went to visit tonight at 6.

Oh no.
That had really raised my hopes. I'm very sorry for raising other peoples' too.

Can’t be blamed for reporting what sounded like good news, we’re all happy to hear it.

According to my pal though, he just needs plenty of rest to recover. Not sure how medically accurate that can be.

Did anyone else find it difficult to concentrate at work this morning?

Yep, been checking for posts on here all day…mixture of hope and trepidation everytime there is a new post

They usually induce a coma so as the body is able to work on fixing what needs to be fixed while everything else is doing as little as possible. Sadly I know this as someone I care a lot about has been put into one a number of times the last couple of years.

I don't know what good it would do but it would make me feel better if we managed to get a good chorus of "gets the ball, he's bound to score, Gary Gary Shaw" going in the Holte on Saturday.

Those that are too young to have seen him play will never know just how good he was. That his career was ruined before he was 23 was a tragedy.

Would've been Cowans/McGrath level easily in conversation for some of our greatest ever players in the modern era.

Given he's only 63 now he could've played somewhere up to the late 90s pretty comfortably but injuries finished his career pretty much at 25/26.

Used to see him all the time down Penns Hall years back so hopefully he can get through this.

2 days ago was 40 years after the Forest incident. He was a few months from his 23rd birthday, and one of the top players in the country. He never had a decent run of playing consecutive games again for the rest of his career. With Ellis back we'd almost certainly have sold him but he should have had a special career wherever he was.

A telling thing of how good he was is that I was looking at some posts about him on Twitter etc earlier and there were so many fans of other clubs that had seen him play and were saying how special a player he was.

He was also the reason for a spate of Gary's born in the early 80's. My cousin being one of them.

I’m hoping for good news soon about the recovery of Gary Shaw, an absolutely inspirational player and by all accounts, a very modest man.

I was 11 when I first saw him at his prime in 80 as a kid.
So he isn’t that that much than older than me.
Shit news.

Shit news.

I was about 4 or 5 when I saw him having a kickabout on the grass next to Meriden Drive about halfway between our two houses. He always wore a Villa bobble hat and would have been about 6 or 7, and we all knew about him even then.

In school, he had an air of snobbery about him as a Villa fan. If you spoke to him about a Villa game the night before, he wouldn’t talk to you about it if you hadn’t been (I nearly always had). A bit ‘better fan than you’, but he was very young and that’s how much he loved the Villa.

I'm sure we've all seen it a million times, but take a close look at his involvement in the European Cup winning goal. Absolute quality. Top, top player.

Get well soon.
