So if I opened my wallet days ago to check it worked, then I open my wallet again on the way to the ground, it'll be fine? What if I open it and then there's a big queue, will it time out?

Yeah just open it again when you get to front. The ticket is in the wallet as soon as you put it there, it stays there for ever. There's a code on it that transmits when you put it near the reader. The code updates every " INSERT SMALL ELEMENT OF TIME HERE " - I don't know how long but not long. The reader checks that the code it gets is the one it expects , so if the wallet is open too long the code you generated (without doing anything) doesn't match the "new " one the reader wants. So only open wallet as you reach the turnstile .

If you have multiple cards/tickets for different things in your wallet you may need to tap the Villa ticket to bring it to the front of the screen.

Some phones do this automatically 'cos they know where you are .

It;s not as complex as it sounds, it's just the way Villa are trying to prevent resale of tickets / fraud. If the code changes then it's impossible to generate fakes .

I was just thinking that. What an absolutely bollocks set of instructions from the club. I met get there for 1.30 just in case...

Once you open it make sure you keep your phone in the same hand. DO NOT transfer your phone to the other hand under any circumstances.

What if somebody calls me? It's time like these I'm thankful for being so unpopular.

You could always get an extra phone just in case

I've actually got three... one is for work and one is an old phone mainly full of history podcasts. Surely if I show them that I'm obsessed with history it'll prove I'm a Villa fan and they'll let me in?

I used the eticket system for the final third of last season and had no problems at all. One or two people in the queue had individual issues and others tried to put their phones into the card reader but you get teething problems with any new service but by and large it worked fine.

You will be at Villa Park, you’ll have no signal.

What time do you usually enter the ground? And what’s your number?  :P
