It's approaching 2 years since Emery came in so I think we're beyond this being a purple patch in form.

As others have said, our squad depth is definitely deeper quality but our first 11 probably not as it stands

We are not an up and at them team from the off so I suspect we’ll try and control the game Unfortunately West Ham I fear it will be fired up and we will have to be careful not to concede a goal

If we're assessing our first team strength now v last year, I'd say it's about the same / potentially stronger.  Onana gives us more muscle in midfield and can play.  JJ is the proverbial 'new signing' and that could be massive for us.  The emergence of Rogers is ace, and I think he really could be something very special.  I think we are as strong and potentially stronger than last season.  The positions we absolutely need to strengthen is up front so that it's not all on Watkins and at centre half in case Mings isn't the same (I really hope he is, because I don't think we'll be signing anybody as good as he was under Emery).   Sign a dominant centre half and Joao Felix, and I'd argue we have better depth and a better first team.
