Nah, Flamengo are taking it seriously...and they did that without Pedro.

I've just notice Red Bull Salzburg are at the Club World Cup. Err... how?

Something to do with not having more than 2 clubs from any European nation and them being next up.

They're not even the best team in Austria recently.

Who’s going to tell those Brazilian fans that it’s only a glorified friendly?

That's what they said to the Uruguayans in 1930.

9th best in UEFA qualification rankings and no other Austrian teams picked. UEFA qualifying is the last four CL winners.

Real x2
City,
Chelsea.

Then best average in Champs League over the previous four seasons but no more then two teams per country. 2x Eng, 2x Spain, 2 x Italy, 2 x Portugal, 2 x German rules out lots of other teams qualifying. PSG is the other single country rep and they instantly qualify for the next one as CL Winners even if they didn't qualify for the CL again after next season.

BV you must have enjoyed the wins by Botafogo and Flamengo? I mean them two being the biggest clubs in Rio and all that. (runs away to hide)

Thanks. I knew it would be a typical FIFA/UEFA convoluted thing.

All joking aside aren’t Flamengo the best supported club in Brazil and I think have one of the biggest memberships worldwide.

Why I oughta! To be fair, in Rio it probably goes Flamengo, Vasco, Flu, Botafogo in terms of number of supporters.

Yes, definitely.

That's true, they're basically the Man U of Brasil with massive support all over the country. In the first half of the 20th century Rio was the largest city (and capital) in Brasil, and the state championships were broadcast nationally by radio. Flamengo were seen as the team of the people (as opposed to the more middle class Fluminense) and became popular nationwide. There were some other factors e.g. probably helped that the owners of Globo were Flamengo fans, Zico and success in the early 80s etc. but radio was probably the main driver.

Interesting. Please don't compare them to Man U, though!

Great game and great result for Botafogo.

Sadly, also marked a return to the Dark Ages of the 70s and 80s.
