Regular game time does him good, intermittent starts etc don't help him get in the groove.

Yeah I think that’s fair.

The "hands behind his back" shit when it's unnecessary must have been something he learned out forrin.

He wouldn't have conceded the penalty at Forest the other week.

Well Luca just did the complete opposite. A defender doing neither is usually OK.

Is there a difference in his performances depending on which left-sided centre half he's playing alongside?

I noticed a couple of times yesterday, Mings took so long to pass to him - and telegraphed the pass when he finally did make it - that it immediately put Maatsen under pressure.

Yeah, he has looked better with Pow.

Agreed Mings doesn't really have that relatively straightforward pass down to the line in his locker. Not sure any of that excuses Maatsen's pathetic efforts at defending in recent games. Thought he had really come on this season but he's finishing it very poorly.

I think he would be really good played as a left sided midfield player but that is never going to happen under Unai!

I'm just not convinced by him at all. Occasionally OK but that's not enough. Just don't think he's all that good I'm afraid.

I'm coming to the same conclusion unfortunately.

Bit of a weird one. He looked very good in phases last season and I thought had some good games earlier in the season but he’s gone backwards at an alarming rate as the season has progressed. Possibly a bit rusty as Digne has been very good this season and fully deserves his place.

He can be very, very good in the oppositions third. Sometimes.

But that doesn't always make up for the brain fog he seems to suffer when defending. I guess if that doesn't improve, and he's young enough for it to happen, then there will be yet another position we need to find another body for.

You do wonder how much 1-1 coaching players get after the group stuff has happened. Both his and Ollies weaknesses seem solvable.

Agreed - I thought there was going to be a changing of the guard, but hes been poor and Im now worrid he may have hit his ceiling.  I am aware that his made up price probably clouds our judgment.
