Terrace Trophy
« on: June 15, 2024, 11:12:39 AM »
I wonder if anyone on here can help? While the history of Villa is really well documented, I have been unable to find a list of all the players who have won the end of season ‘Terrace Trophy’. If anyone knows where I can find one, I would be grateful, also, is it still called the Terrace Trophy or had it become The (Supporters) Player of the Year?

1958 Nigel Sims (inaugural winner)
1959 Johnny Dixon
1960 Jimmy Dugdale
1966 Colin Withers
1967 Colin Withers
1968 Brian Godfrey
1969 Barrie Hole
1970 Dave Rudge plus another player? (Shared)
1972 Andy Lochhead
1973 Jimmy Brown
1974 John Gidman
1975 Chris Nicholl
1976 Ian Ross?
1977 Dennis Mortimer
1990 Paul McGrath
1991 Paul McGrath
1992 Paul McGrath
1993 Paul McGrath
1994 Paul McGrath
1995 Paul McGrath
2006 Steven Davis?
2010 James Milner
2011 Marc Albrighton
2012 Stephen Ireland
2013 Brad Guzan
2014 Fabian Delph
2015 Fabian Delph
2016 not awarded
2018 Albert Adomah
2019 John McGinn
2020 Jack Grealish
2021 Emi Martinez
2022 Matty Cash (Supporters')/Jacob Ramsey (Players') - not sure which is the "Terrace Trophy"?
2023 Douglas Luiz
2024 Ollie Watkins

What I have found so far, will keep looking. Not sure if it was a thing in the 80s/90s/00s?

I'm sure I've seen a picture of Ian Ross holding the trophy but can't find it now. If he did, 1976 would be the year. Have tentatively put him in.

Saw suggestion on Twitter that Steven Davis won in 2006 and Paul McGrath won four times, but again not sure if Terrace Trophy.

Not sure if this request could be moved to Heroes Discussion for wider viewing until we have got them all, or confirmed if the list above is complete? Was there no award in 2017?

Some suggestion online (well, here) that Dave Rudge won. But he left halfway through the season in 1969/70 which is the only remaining year he could have won. Did he really win on the basis of half a season? I suppose it's possible as we were pretty shit then.

I can help a little with that one. He shared it with another player in that season (I can’t remember who!) At the time, I was six and went to a lot of Central League games, he was one of my favourites. I voted for him and my dad scoffed at my choice, so I was incredibly surprised when he was announced. Probably an indication that we were not very good that year! Thanks to everyone who has helped out with this request.

Last update on this, thought I’d go back to 1989 and state both Supporters player & young player awards. Interesting that I have seen match reports of the 1995 Man City & Liverpool games which state Deano as player of the season but no mention anywhere else. I’ve seen reference to both Ricky Scimeca & Lee Hendrie winning the young player award for 1998, probably Hendrie is most likely. I’ve got a few question marks over the young player of the year for recent seasons, I can’t see anything online.
Supporters Player & Young Player of the Year:
1989 David Platt & Mark Blake
1990 Paul McGrath & Bryan Small
1991 Paul McGrath & Dwight Yorke
1992 Paul McGrath & Steve Froggatt
1993 Paul McGrath & Mark Bosnich
1994 Mark Bosnich & Graham Fenton
1995 Dean Saunders & ?
1996 Dwight Yorke & Ricky Scimeca
1997 Dwight Yorke & ?
1998 Ian Taylor & Ricky Scimeca or Lee Hendrie?
1999 Julian Joachim & Gareth Barry
2000 Paul Merson & Gareth Barry
2001 Paul Merson & Darius Vassell
2002 Juan Pablo Angel & Darius Vassell
2003 Gareth Barry & Jlloyd Samuel
2004 Juan Pablo Angel & Peter Whittingham
2005 Nobby Solano & Steven Davis
2006 Steven Davis both player & young player
2007 Gareth Barry & Gabby Agbonlahor
2008 Martin Laursen & Gabby Agbonlahor
2009 Stan Petrov & Nathan Delfouneso
2010 James Milner & Nathan Delfouneso
2011 Stewart Downing & Marc Albrighton
2012 Stephen Ireland & Andi Weimann
2013 Brad Guzan & Andi Weimann?
2014 Fabian Delph & Leandro Bacuna
2015 Fabian Delph & Jack Grealish
2016 not awarded
2017 not awarded
2018 James Chester & Keinan Davis
2019 John McGinn & Jacob Ramsey (Academy Player of the Season)
2020 Jack Grealish & ?
2021 Emi Martinez & Chukwuemeka (Academy Player of the Season)
2022 Matty Cash & Jacob Ramsey
2023 Douglas Luiz & Jacob Ramsey
2024 Ollie Watkins & ?

I'd be interested to know more about the 1994 and '95 awards because I always saw McGrath as winning them both.
