I don’t think I’m over this yet

It fucks me off no end having to sell him, listening to the shit Man U were allowed to get away as regards to PSR and how Chelsea seem to keep just buying players without much care of anything. Drives me nuts that we had to weaken our squad at a time we should just be strengthening.

The stuff about Man U is here

But he refused to sign a new contract, so we had no / little choice.

We didn’t HAVE to sell him though, he didn’t want to stay.

If PSR wasn’t as much of an issue we could have made a greater effort in the summer once CL was confirmed to keep him here longer. I know he had an improved offer out there and I’m not saying he would have accepted anything new. But we were clearly restricted in what we could do with existing contracts and new players we want to bring in. In the end we had to get under a number by the June 30th deadline and Doug became the most obvious saleable asset. And it’s possible that under the new rules that replace PSR we wouldn’t have had to sell him at all. I guess we will never know.

The West Ham fella also suggested there was price for Duran before the 30th and the price after +£10m, which suggests that we’ve had to address PSR ahead of sorting ourselves out.

Hopefully that Man U interview gains further interest from the media because it stinks (if accurate).

All this Dougie stuff is like the guy who's broken up with his girlfriend and starts cyber stalking them on social media. Time to move on.

And to be clear, as much as it pisses me off that PSR forced our hand prior to June 30th, what really saddens me about Doug leaving is the quality of footballer we lost. It’s possible we might sign someone that will fill the gap he’s left, but when on form and correctly supported, he’s just a silky, sublime player to have in midfield. We just don’t have anyone remotely close to him right now.

Nobody is stalking him. He’s been gone a matter of a few weeks. It’s not like we’re talking about the departure of Jack Grealish years on. We are allowed to talk about recently departed ex players especially in the context of what we have lost from our club and team immediately after.

Couldn’t agree more. He’ll be sorely missed despite what some say. He was the heartbeat of the team.

I stand by what I wrote at the time - a very good player, potentially our best engine room midfielder since Dennis Mortimer, but I never thought he'd be here forever.

I really wouldn’t accept what that idiot says as fact. I think there was a belief at WHAM! that they could get him for £30m because of our PSR situation, which was wrong.

Ok so Man City get away with 115 breaches, Man Utd exceptional £30M Covud allowance and Chelsea gave an unlimited credit card limit. Meanwhile, we have not yet made a marquee signing and have lost 2 key players from last year? Isn't it about time we did something about this?
