people turning their noses up at Felix.... come on, we was signing Jota from Blues 5 years ago. Let's be sensible.

Jota was crap but the Felix situation is just like Coutinho. With Ramsey, Buendia, McGinn, Rogers, Tielemans...I'm not sure this is a position we need to prioritise.

I agree that we're stocked well in attacking midfield positions..... I'd rather we sold Duran and signed another proper striker.

It’s not just like Coutinho. I was happy when Coutinho joined, but he was on the way down. Félix is a young player who has got a bit lost.

And we're being linked with the lad from Dortmund (apparently the fastest player to ever play in the German league) so who's to say we're not looking for a replacement for Diaby and another for Duran.

True.

In fairness to Bronte though, early-on he called out the Coutinho move being akin to the Colombian James Rodriguez rocking-up at Everton - a short impact before they couldn't wait to get shot of his wages.

I will say I was very happy with Coutinho coming. He still had plenty of years ahead, had been excellent in the PL for quite a while previously and was coming to play for his mate. There was no suggestion of attitude issues, just thought he needed to up his fitness and all would be good. I still don’t really know what happened there.

James Rodriquez was once a magnificent footballer and I saw something the other day to say we’d been ‘offered’ him. I wouldn’t though, obviously.

I remember being excited by the signing too, but it did feel like a punt given his age.  I hoped he'd have the same kind of impact that Merson had back then, and there were encouraging performances when he looked magnificent.  Ultimately I think his legs had gone by the time he arrived and the injuries just exacerbated it.

Where's the evidence Felix isnt on a similar decline? Like Coutinho, their big 100m or so moves bombed for various reasons, subsequent loans have been mixed at best too. Get Felix back to his best and you potentially have one of the best players in the PL but it's a huge gamble. Sometimes when a players spirit is broken it never really returns.
My sense of it is that Felix really wants to stay with Barca but with their finances it might go down to the last days of the transfer window, if they want it to happen.

Sometimes in life taking a gamble is worth it and If anyone can get Felix playing to his potential it’s probably Emery.

I don't mind Felix coming, he is clearly very talented.

It's just that he always seems such a moany, mardy twat, and I wonder, we're in the process of shifting one of those out, does it make sense to bring another one in?

Also, hasn't he scoffed at the idea of joining us before?

I dunno, I guess that's all hearsay, but it just makes me a bit concerned, that's all.

The age point is the reason I don’t think he’s necessarily on that sort of decline. That’s not to say he will definitely hit a huge peak, but there’s no reason he should be in physical decline and he clearly has loads of talent. It’s probably about mental state and I can imagine stability would help that. Athleti under Simeone was clearly just a really poor move for him.

Mate he's 24 and hasn't been at a settled club for some time, all signings are a gamble but it's not like he's 30 and looking for a final paycheck. We have an incredible manager who has improved every player at the club, so I'm confident he can do the same with Felix and get him settled

It's possible that he's the "after" of the Duran story. Signed for a decent club at a young age for huge money and possibly got a bit too big for his boots, which resulted in the situation he's in now. Maybe he's learned and is willing to take a step back (not in a derogatory sense) to get things back on track. I'd have no problem with him thinking he'll spend a season or two with us and get his move to Barca then, as long as he knows he has to put the work in while he's here. A bit like Barkley going to France and then Luton before signing for a Top 4 CL side.
