I guess we’ve moved into the modern world of football. I suppose as fans we’re so used to hoping our youngsters come through and become a success and it’s difficult to accept seeing them sold on like a cattle market.

It seems the owners had adopted this module a few years ago and we’re now seeing the profitable results of it. For once the people running Aston Villa seem to know what they are doing.

I don’t like it, I must admit.

I thought Kellyman was the one that Emery really wanted to develop for a Villa first-team berth ...

Lee Carsley rates him as well. He's gotta be worth more than 2 Tims.

Yes, confirmed by my mate, who is Carsley’s mate.

Can’t quite believe that Chelsea would be willing to pay £20m for a player with so few appearances, I suppose they have form with Chucky but still it’s quite bizarre as Kellyman doesn’t have the fanfare that he did at the time.

£20m for Kellyman is insane money.

I don't get it. If this is some sort of mutual PSR back scratching with Chelsea (and Everton), how exactly is it working?

Also, whoever it was at the club who made the decision to concentrate on nicking the best kids from other academies in the local area, give that man a cigar, it's bagged us 30m in the space of a few days.

Jacob Ramsey - the final youth prospect to ever fully break through at Villa. Let's cherish him and his dodgy metatarsal.

JJ is a Champions League level player though.

If they're good enough - like JJ - they will break through and stay there.

We can't bang on about being a champions league club and wanting to stay there and then at the same time be sentimental about things. They're good enough, or they are not good enough, and these days they'll get far fewer chances to prove their worth than they would have done in the past, because the squad is much, much stronger and operating to far higher standards.

Also worth remembering, most of these are kids we've taken from the academies of some of the small clubs in the area - Albion in particular - JJ has been here since he was knee high to a grasshopper.

Steal them for next to nothing, improve them, flip them for a big profit. All of a sudden our academy becomes incredibly lucrative - like Man City's and Chelsea's. It's not a coincidence those clubs have realised this, too.

I thought Kellyman looked like he had a bit of something about him when be got a run out at the start of the season. The injury obviously didn't help and at a time when we could have used him he wasn't available, so maybe we're just that cut throat  now. Kids get one chance and that's it.

You've had your chance, you didn't take it, you're going to pay the price. We're selling you to Chelsea.

Go and sit in their lean-to dressing room, never play and get paid 3 times as much as we paid you, and maybe then you'll learn not to get injured and miss half a season.

I think it's a big shame but it's how things are right now. Suspect that, once our financial situation stabilises a bit, we'll start to see a few more talents stick around.

Sad to see Kellyman go, but that fee is crazy.

£20m for an 18 year old that's started 1 senior game is bonkers.

Has Duran priced himself out of a move and we suddenly needed a sale to plug the PSR hole?

Still £20m for a kid we’ve barely played is a decent bit of business as there’s no guarantee that he’ll make it and arguably less likely now at Chelsea.
