I think Barkley is cheap cover for Tielemans, ie that player who can play in any and all of the midfield places if required. Probably even as number 10 if needed.

The first club in Brazil to break racial and class segregation, the club of Vavà, Edmundo, Romario, a 'good staging post'.

Nice crest and shirt, and preferable to Flamengo, but that's about it. Have been to the 'Clássico dos Milhões' couple of times but it'll always be Fluminense for me in Rio. Think someone here (Drummond?) has a Vasco shirt from a trip there.

Correct sir.

I went to see Fluminense v Vasco at the Maracana in 2007. Match ended 4-4.

Wore my retro Villa shirt (Wembley 1971 variety) to the game...

Anyway, decided on Vasco before the game and have followed their fortunes along the way; safe to say I'm not a glory hunter.

Maybe Barkley will show up as a model pro and be happy to play anywhere and everywhere just to get minutes on the pitch. But nothing in his career to date suggests that he will. Cover for Luiz or Tielemans isn't what we need. I don't think it's a great move for Barkley either.

Except for the season he's just finished.

Yes but you have to discount evidence, very recent evidence, in favour of gut feeling.

Never let petty details like this get in the way of a good misery-wallow.

Yeah joining a champions league team with one of the world's best managers is a shite move for a player

3 Premier League clubs - including one in Champions League - interested in Nottingham Forest forward Callum Hudson-Odoi.

I see Romano is claiming Dougie is on the wanted list at Arsenal, no surprise there and I reckon they tried to tap him up in January. It would explain a lot. More interesting is the figure we'd want for him, £85m. Good to know if he does go, it will be on our terms.

May I boldly suggest that anybody who claims Barkley will be brought in to replace Dougie spends the entire transfer window in Time Wasters with no access to the rest of the site. Maybe the Heavy Metal Appreciation thread could be bundled in for extra punishment.

I'd like to back this proposal.

I'd hope buying someone like Barkley, at the price point, would mean we weren't forced to sell someone like Dougie just to meet FFP or whatever.

My guess he is a cheap alternative for whichever is sold between Doug/Ramsey or Tielemans. The surplus cash, after paying back FFP, will be spent on a DCM.

I think if we sold Doug it would remind people of the qualities he brings. He’d be a huge loss.

As Jacob is injured he can't be sold this window unless buying club appoint MON as their manager.
