Here’s the thing, we bring in Monchi one of the worlds best recruitment experts who so far has one  winter transfer window when we all know it’s a lottery, and of course Unai has only brought in two players since he came in as far as I can remember - so I’m expecting a major squad overhaul as it’s the first.  Ok I get that FFP gives us little room for manoeuvre but if we don’t overhaul what is the point of Monchi?

What do you mean by the bolded bit?

We've brought in Moreno, Torres, Diaby, Tielemans, Gauci, Rogers, and then Zaniolo and Lenglet on loan. Technically Durán and the Serbian lad too.

Do you mean only 2 players before Monchi arrived?

Yes.  Monchi arrived on 1 July but if I remember correctly he couldn’t influence any transfers apart may be for Lenglet which was an emergency.  I may be wrong so please feel free to correct me but Torres and Diaby were already on the radar/in the bag?

My point is this will be his first full summer window so it will be very interesting to see what happens.  Ok we may not need a major overhaul but can we not expect him and Unai to target better fits for how he wants to play?

🔵🟣 Unai Emery, pushing to sign Ross Barkley as his quality and experience are considered interesting for Aston Villa next season.

Talks are taking place in order to reach an agreement with former Man United midfielder.

Great attention to detail there from the tap-in merchant.

Adrien Rabiot?

Apparently his contract is up this summer, and several posts on twitter saying we are interested in him.

I like the look of that Solet geezer. Big, strong but also agile. It would be interesting if he can adapt to the speed of play on the Prem though (some of those "dribbles" looked slightly out of control and could be pounced on). Any idea if he is good in the air for corners are either end?

Who was primarily responsible for scouting Rogers. That was some top work.

If we get the Barkley of last seasons effort and quality, then we've done pretty well to bag a midfield three of Kamara, Tielemans and Barkley for nowt in transfer outlay. Add in another defensive type, Dougie and McGinn and we're well stocked in the middle, the Black Death descending on BMH mid-October notwithstanding.

I know this goes against the majority opinion on here at the moment but i suspect that the 'effort and quality' that Barkley showed at Luton last season (i didn't witness this personally as i didn't watch them much but i'll take your word for it) was because he realised that if he didn't he would be truly fucked and could say goodbye to the gravy train forever. Once back on that train (hopefully not with us) i reckon he'll revert to his prior self and be nothing but a drain on resources. So even if he's free or very cheap i wouldn't touch him with a bargepole. We've just qualified for the champions league, surely we can cast the net a little wider and get someone who hasn't already failed here.

I’m not sure what’s happened to Barkley since he left us but there appears to have been a damascene conversion in his fitness approach and shape. Compare the shape of his body when at Villa 3 years ago to what he looked like last year. He was noticeably slimmer and less muscled on the top half his body and I wonder if someone at Chelsea or maybe Rob Edwards at Luton has given him advice or an ultimatum tha5 he needed to change his body shape, fitness regime, dietary habits to continue/start performing at a higher level. The times I’ve seen him this season he’s been very good in an obviously limited team. He played well in both games against us and there have been reports of exceptional showings at other clubs in the top half, Newcastle away a highlight where against Newcastles notorious “sweaty jockstraps all energy no finesse” midfield he took the piss and helped massively in getting his team the 4-4. On a free and with what looks like a refreshed attitude to fitness, body shape, diet etc it’s an absolute no brainer.

If we signed Araujo that would be an absolute joke. Quite literally one of the best centre backs in world football.

It'd never happen though. Right..?

exactly  , replacing Carlos for him , we would be definitely be
moving forward.    Brilliant signing  ( crosses fingers)

This would be my view as well
Seems to start off well prove he can do it then fall into a state of apathy and laziness

The only difference I can see this time is Unai Emery, you would hope that once he’s got the one or two year contract he won’t just put his feet up and cruise along but fully buys into the Emery football coaching philosophy
Doesn’t strike me as the fella that is going to be a natural for sitting in 2 hour long technical meetings but we live in hope

So yeah in Emery we trust and all that stuff…….

I don’t think RB is available on a free.
