Why are we playing an away friendly in Slovakia? Seems a bit rogue

Did we ever find out why we are playing this friendly? Flying out to Slovakia before going to the US seems very random, especially when it's to play Spartak Trnava.

Hi there from Trnava.

Agree its a bit random friendly. Looks like our new management team want to revive our glory past, playing the big teams again. Like in the 70tees when we were destroying tough Czechoslovak league, narowly missing on European Cup final, beaten by Cruyffs Ajax in the semis. So we do have a bit of a european pedigree from the past.

After decades of misery we´ve been quiet decent recently, managed to get to ECL group stages last season, going through all the quallification rounds. In current economic climate (our budget is less than what your top player gets paid a year) its almost impossible for a club from Slovakia to get a proper game against a Champions league outfit so we´re at least doing these friendlies - last summer it was Valencia, now we cant wait for a match against big club from England.

Anyone comming over I wish you a great trip. Finally a bit of rain this morning and its tad cooler, after 35+ degrees heat the whole week. (Czech) beer is lovely and cheap, the atmosphere going to be great, still quiet new stadium located in heart of historical city center will be rocking - Im sure you will have a good time in Trnava. Hopefully not just a friendly but a quality game of footie as well.

Would like to thank Villa officials, and your top manager Emery to ok this random friendly sandwitched in between your summer preparations for the new season. We´d approached Liverpool (and Newcastle) too but we would likely go into administration if paid what these clubs were asking for so fair play to the Villains.

Welcome mate, great post and lovely to hear from you. We'd be interested to hear your thoughts on the match after we've played. Enjoy the game and have a great season.

Welcome to the forum! I hope it is a good game later and that you have a good qualifying campaign yourselves.

While I do think that rumour is bollocks it would be nice to have some sort of indication on how his recovery is progressing.

Although no Buendia or Mings either suggests it’s probably just precautionary.
