It's amazing Martinez was loaned so much, and his story says a lot, I suppose.
Not saying Gauci will reach those heights, but he's probably got a few more loans in him given his age, then one could argue, though these days with all the financial implications, these players are assets and getting development is as much for selling as they are for future first-team duties.

I now tend to focus mainly my attention to the first teamers who are at the club as literally all the other players aren't really impacting Aston Villa mens team in any way.
Not until they come back anyway even if they do come back!

10 clean sheets and a promotion for Barnsley means what to Villa?
It means something to Gauci.

A couple of my Chelsea supporting friends take this approach.

Port Vale in EFL Div 1.

He went to Barnsley last season, but came back because of injury.

Get the impression that he hasn't made the progress we expected when we signed him for £1.3m in Feb 2024.

Obviously not good enough to be back up to Dibu - hence Beezer.
Expect his progress/improvement to be reviewed next summer, with a view to possibly selling him if we get the right offer.

He'll be 26 by then, so really should be becoming an established player and not a loanee.

Maybe this move to Div 1 will make him wake up and smell the beans.

Surprised we didn't wait until after Saturday, assume we will have a kid on the bench, now.

Proctor, I'm guessing.

Yep, he took his spot on the bench for the weekend games already, so no shock to see Gauci go out today.

Having watched him on his few opportunities it feels like a weird signing for us to have made in the first place because he is as slow and ponderous with his feet as Olsen was and that is such a key attribute needed for the way we play.

Hopefully he has a good season at Vale and proves wrong but we shall see.

Wonder if we’ll do the Carson style 3rd keeper signing or promote one of the kids to 3rd choice in the knowledge that you can sign an emergency keeper if injuries mount up in season.

I hope the latter, I don't see the point of having a 3rd choice keeper in his late 30s, get Proctor in the first team squad and travelling everywhere with the team. If it turns out he's not good enough in a couple of years then that experience is good for him personally and potentially makes it easier to get a fee for him.

We released Lander Emery (Real Union) Filip Marschsll (Stevenage) and Robin Olsen (Malmo) in the summer.

Oliwier Zych is on his second season of loans in Poland and Sam Lewis is at Oxford City.

So, apart from Emi and Bizot, we haven't any real experience in the goalkeeping dept.

So if either of them are injured we'll have Sam Proctor (18) on the bench with James Lewis (20) who spent last season at Real Union as backup (or vice versa).

The problem with signjng reserve/backup/3rd choice  keepers is that you're looking for somebody who is a) experienced, b) prepared to sit on the bench all season and c) not too dear in terms of transfer fee ir wages.

Over to you Monchi.

👆subject to the terms, in the instance of injuries to both first choice keepers, we may be able to recall one of them from their loan.
