It is, he looked composed, had very similar footwork to Martinez (and took less risks).

It's hard to tell from tonight if he is any good. He didn't make a save, but I feel sure he could have done better with the winning goal, or at least tried to save it. Also he was flapping a couple of times. I know we have been spoilt with Martínez.

Didn't really do much wrong, other than one occasion when he failed to come out for the ball and got a bollocking from Mings for his troubles. Doesn't always look entirely conformable playing the ball out, but I think that just takes a little time to develop. Martinez said he wasn't keen on it at first.

I think he could have done better with second goal tbh. The first one all carlos fault

For the second goal, Gauci seemed to have been wrong-footed. Which was odd, because from the moment he picked it up, the Palace player looked for all the world that he'd drive in to the centre and try to cut a shot back. Which is exactly what he did.

I don't really have any issue with the second goal, it went through Kamara's legs so he was unsighted. My biggest issue is that I felt he had no presence at all, he's not small by any means, bit he looked it.

Based on last night , i'd rather have Olsen as back up .

It's probably very harsh considering he's not had that much of a chance and he's still relatively young in goalkeeping terms, but I am starting to wonder what the point of signing him was. We clearly need a decent back up keeper that we can be comfortable with if Emi has to miss any games, and he doesn't seem to have displayed anything in the Carabao Cup games/friendlies he's played that suggests he may develop into a reasonable Premier League goalkeeper.

I guess £1.5m isn't a massive amount of money, so it's not a huge gamble, but he just doesn't appear remotely close to being good enough so far. I guess he must have looked very good in Australia.

To be fair to gauci i think this is his second start for us so will need more time. Olsens had plenty and not looked good in a lot of those.

One thing i did notice about gauci though he was pretty good at catching the ball from opposition crosses. He was solid in that area

On Gauci it's concerning he's got to league one level for experience.

It’s not concerning at all. In fact it’s quite common for young players to be sent on loan down a division or two?

To play first team football, as a goalkeeper.

Yes, however, for a goalkeeper of his potential and development, I think he should be looking at Championship level.

Leeds, WBA, Burnley, and Sunderland, to name a few clubs, have goalkeepers playing aged 24 and under.Where are we pitching Gauci?To me, League One is too low a level for a goalkeeper of substance, as he is 24 years old, 25 in the summer.

If he's ambitious and wants to be an international mainstay GK for Australia.Perhaps next season Gauci will be loaned to a higher level?

Gauci had his chances as a cup keeper, but now at his age he needs to be playing to get experience, but it's that level of experience that I'm wondering about.
