Was his poorest game so far, but then he was exposed a few times and this is the highest level of opposition he’s faced for us.

He’s our young, third-choice keeper, so lot’s of room for him to develop.
He's 24 now but hasn't the experience yet but I guess has opportunity to learn off Martinez and garner experience from Olsen in training.
I'm expecting him to be groomed to take over but will need exposure to matches even domestic cup ones to get a feel for things
Btw he has a brother called Jed!
Like Jed Steer ! Which is a funny coincidence.
I liked Jed Steer a lot. Play off hero!

I didn’t think it was that bad. He probably makes a positional error for the second goal but part of that is trying to make up for the defensive errors by Pau and then Feeney. But he did basic stuff pretty well overall. Distribution was good, dealt with all crosses competently. He’s a back up to Olsen, very young and if Olsen isn’t sold is a decent squad player right now.

De Gea is finally looking for a club. If he wasn't being silly with wage demands, I wonder if he'd be worth going for. Our back-ups to Emi currently are distinctly average.

Its a nice idea but i reckon he probably thinks he could be first choice for some team. Cant blame him if so, he's only 33.

True, that’s what I thought
But then he’s just spent a whole year out doing nothing at all, so we wouldn’t lose anything just to give him a call and see

He makes Olsen look like Beckenbauer with the ball at his feet, which I think is largely why he's still looking for another club. Don't think we'd be going anywhere near him.

I wouldn’t be turning my nose up to having him as the no 2 to be honest
But like you say I don’t think we’ll be anywhere near him

I'm with Lee, he is a good shot stopper but our play is so reliant on having a keeper who can be trusted with the ball at their feet that there's no ponit replacing Olsen with someone just as bad as he is at that part of the game.

The League Cup v Wycombe thread must be comimg soon as the match is Tuesday at 8 p.m.

In the meantime, I will discuss and debate here with Gauci. So I think JG should get this tie. We can talk about him, Buendia, and others starting and what line-up selections people think once the thread is up but anticipate Gauci playing and think fair to rest Martinez.

In the event of scores being level at full time duration in Rounds 3, 4, and 5, no extra time gets played. And goes straight to penalty shoot.

Everything pointing to Gauci playing tonight.
Of course this would be his debut would it not if he started?
The last actual competitive game he played was against Palestine in June 5-0 victory.

Made a few poor decisions but wasn't at fault for the goal.
Poorest decision was coming for a long throw which he flapped at and misjudged giving away a corner.

Pretty composed generally on the ball apart from a spell of kicking it out of play
Had sense to play long when needed and handling in general was fine.
Also like Martinez takes time, and by all means, on the ball when needed in playing out from back. It's the way we play.

Set up a few attacks from rolling out quickly and from the longer passes wasn't helped by Duran failure in winning it getting on to the passes

He acquitted himself very well, it’s nice to see a back up keeper playing with confidence and in turn giving us fans some confidence/comfort

I can see why we signed him, looked a lot more like a modern Premier League keeper than Olsen does. Confident with his feet and sharp in looking for chances to counter. There were a couple of mistakes so still work to do but there's enough there for us to work with.

He is a commanding presence in his box, always looking to claim the ball.
